STEP BY STEP RFR procedure for CISCO CSS router – 920 I / 920 O )

Overview of Routers Used in RJIL Deployment :
1) AG2 (Aggregate 2) routers. ASR 9010:
The Cisco ASR 9000 Series operates in a fully distributed fashion
which equates to all packet forwarding decisions and actions
taking place on individual line cards. The purpose-built high-
density Ethernet line cards are equipped with a flexible
programming infrastructure, high-density Ethernet, robust
Hierarchical Quality of Service (H-QoS), advanced Ethernet
services, wide ranging security mechanisms, and integrated
Synchronous Ethernet capabilities.

2) AG1 (Aggregate 1) routers. ASR 903:

The Cisco ASR 903 Router is a fully-featured aggregation platform
designed for the cost-effective delivery of converged mobile and
business services. With shallow depth, low power consumption,
and an extended temperature range, this compact 3-rack-unit
(RU) router provides high service scale, full redundancy, and
flexible hardware configuration

3) DCN routers. ASR 3925:
Cisco 3925E Integrated Services Routers (ISR) deliver highly
secure data, voice, video, and application services to large
branch offices.
Cisco 3925E features include:
Modular Services Performance Engine (SPE) 200 for even higher
performance as WAN environments evolve
4 integrated 10/100/1000 Ethernet ports with 2 SFP ports
2 service module slots
3 Enhanced High-Speed WAN Interface Card (EHWIC) slots
3 onboard digital signal processor (DSP) slots

4) CSS(Cell Switch Site) ASR 901 :

The Cisco ASR 901 Series Aggregation Services Routers are
environmentally hardened, high-speed, low-power-
consumption routers optimized for any-G cell-site Radio
Access Network (RAN) backhaul and Ethernet access. By using
the Cisco ASR 901 routers, operators can reduce backhaul
operating costs, simplify and converge their RAN and Ethernet
access networks, and enhance their profit opportunities with
mobile and premium Ethernet services.

4) CSS(Cell Switch Site) ASR 920 I & ASR 920 O :

The Cisco ASR 920 Series Aggregation Services Routers

throughput and low power consumption ideal for mobile
backhaul, business services and residential voice, video, and ASR 920 i
data ("triple-play") applications.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE :

Router should be installed below 1U(3 holes) gap from E-node B and also there should be 1U gap between the router and
the equipment below the router (Please follow NDD)

RFR PROCEDURE FOR CSS ROUTER :

Stepwise Procedure for login to router:

1) Install USB-Console driver in Laptop.:
2) Connect the laptop with the router through the
USB CON port in router by using a USB-USB
console cable
3) Check the COM PORT no# in device manager as
shown in the snap.(COM 10 )

4 ) Open putty and select “SERIAL” in Connection type tab .

Select Serial line to the COM no# as shown in device 5 ) Click on “SERIAL” in the Category TAB in the left hand side
manager.(COM 10 as shown in snap). of the window. Set RTS/CTS in flow control tab as shown in
the below snap. Click on Open.

6) Press enter on the black screen of putty and

the printout appears as shown in the below snap.

7) On the “Router>” prompt , type “enable” and

press enter..

8) Check the version of the IOS using “show version “
command . The version will appear as shown in Snap 2.
The IOS version should be as per NIP. Or else the IOS needs to
be upgraded or degarded.

9) Copy the required NIP and IOS in a pen drive as

shown in the snap.

10) Connect the pen drive to the USB MEM port in

the router as shown in the attached snaps.

11) Type “dir usb0: “and press

enter.
If the pen drive gets detected than
the attached printout will appear
showing the contents of pen drive
as shown in the snap.

PROCEDURE TO COPY IOS FROM EXTERNAL DRIVE TO ROUTER:

12) Copy the IOS file from pen drive using the following command.
i) COPY USB0:asr920-universalk9_npe.V155_1_s2_SR635680903_6.bin FLASH:
ii) Press enter. The printout will appear as per the below snap.

13) Copy the NIP file from pen drive using
the following command.
i) COPY USB0:(Copy the NIP file name

The following printout will appear as the NIP gets copied and the hostname will appear instead of “router#”

14) Type “ show interface

description” , press enter and the
port description appears as shown
in the snap.
The shown port descriptions will
be as per the NIP file copied.

15) Type “ write” or “wr” and press enter. This command

writes every command in the NV RAM of the router which
prevents the erase of the configurations loaded if the

router suffers a restart.
RFR PROCEDURE FOR CSS ROUTER :

16) Connect the media ( fibre as in case of attached snap)

For fibre sites LCPC-LCAPC patch chords are used.
LCPC(blue end) should be connected at the router end.
LCAPC(green end) should be connected at the FDP end.

RFR PROCEDURE FOR CSS ROUTER :

17) After connecting the media (as

in this case router ports 12 & 13
and the FDP end) , type “show
interface description” and type
enter to check if the ports are
showing up/down.
As shown in the snap Te0/0/12 &
Te0/0/13 are showing as up.
Also the corresponding BDI are
showing as up.(BDI 354 & 355 as
per the attached snap)

RFR PROCEDURE FOR CSS ROUTER :

Snap 1: 18) Check the BGP summary by the command “

show bgp summary” and press enter. The printout
will appear as per Snap 1. State will show as idle
initially.

19) Inform the concerned Project coordinator or L2

team for further RFR process which will be carried
out by Integration NOC for Integration of the site in
portal.
