GOVERNMENT ENGINEERING COLLEGE, AJMER SUBMITTED BY: DEEPAK MEENA (14ME17) INTRODUCTION
Indian railways has one of the largest and busiest rail
networks in the world, transporting over 18 million passengers and more than 2 million tones of freight daily. It is the world's largest commercial or utility employer, with more than 1.4 million employees. The railways traverse the length and breadth of the country, covering 6,909 stations over a total route length of more than 63,327 kilometers (39,350 mi). 50,000 coaches and 8,000 locomotives FUEL SECTION
The total oil expenditure of 4700 crore rupees/year is
a big amount so this is one of the most concentrating fields for the government. Before unloading following thing are checked 1. The oil is tested by lube oil lab. 2. The temperature at time of unloading and by multiplying by the temp. with the Correction factor, the exact volume is calculated. 3. The moisture in the oil is checked. TURBO SUPER CHARGER
Turbo charging is used to increase the amount
of air pushed into each cylinder 1. The turbo charger is driven by exhaust gas from the engine 2. Turbo charging gives a 50% increase in engine power 3. The main advantage of the turbo charger is that it gives more power with no increase in fuel costs because it uses exhaust drive power 4. The amount of fuel which can be burnt depends on the amount of air available in the cylinder. CYLINDER HEAD SECTION
1. Tests conducting on cylinder on cylinder head
hydraulic testing 2. In this testing the head is testing for any type of water leakage from the water jackets made for cooling system TRACTION MOTOR Since the diesel – electric loco uses electric transmission, traction motors are provided on the axles to give the final drive. These motors were traditionally D.C but the development of modern power & control electronics has led to the introduction of 3-phase A.C. motors. There are between 4&6 motors on most diesel electric loco. A modern A.C motors with air blowing can provide up to 1000hp. PINION/GEAR The traction motor drives the axle through reduction gear of a range between 3 to 1 (freight) & 4 to 1 (passenger). WAGON REPAIR SHOP • Foundation stone of Wagon Repair workshop, Kota was laid in November 1957 and the shop was commissioned in October 1960. • Initially 250 wagons were repaired per month. But with its growth and development, this capacity has been raised progressively up to 1000 wagons per months. Assets of W.R.S.
