Major Elements of Microsoft Word

• Title Bar:
This is the bar at the top of the window. It shows the name of
the window or document. It contains the Minimize, Restore, and
Close buttons

These 3 buttons are also called as caption buttons.

Menu Bar

This menu provides access to the sub menus of the


word.

Note :
1. One can notice that in every menu a letter is underlined.
2. The user can open the menu by holding the Alt key
followed by the underlined character.

Standard Toolbar

This contains buttons for commonly used actions.

Formatting Toolbar

This contains buttons for formatting text.

Status Bar

This is displayed at the bottom of the screen. It


shows information about the current page, section, line
and column numbers.

How to create a Word Document
• Click “File” menu. Select and click “New” option.

(A new dialog box is displayed as shown


below).

• Click on the document Radio button on the create


New box.

• Select the Blank Document icon and click OK button


otherwise double click Blank Document icon. A blank
new document will be displayed.

otherwise click button on the standard
toolbar.
• Double click on the file from the opened window
or select the file and press <Enter> key

• Click on the “File” menu.

• Select and click “Close” option,

otherwise click “Alt+f+c” key combination.

How to Enter & Edit the text in the
Word document
• By using the alphanumeric keys (visible characters) of
the keyboard enter the data as required.
• By using the arrow (left, right, up & down) keys you can
place the cursor where ever required.
• Using the backspace & delete keys you can remove the
text under the cursor.
• Using the Page Up, Page Down keys you can navigate
through the whole document very fast.

• “Ctrl+Home” to go to the beginning of the document.

• “Ctrl+End” to go to the end of the document.

• The mouse can also be used to move the cursor to


any position of the document.

• The scroll bars can be used to scroll the document up


and down wards.
