Merriam-Webster Dictionary describes
an Electrooculogram as a device that
records the difference of the electrical
charge between the front and back of the
eye that is correlated with eyeball
movement, such as that in REM sleep, and
obtained by electrodes placed on the
skin near the eye.
The biosignal that the EOG monitors is a
biooptical signal
These signals may occur naturally or via
induced measurement
The eye acts as a dipole, the positive is
the anterior.
The EOG is used to track eye movement
The EOG is also used to asses the
function of the pigment epithelium.
Electrodes placed on either side of the
eye
Ground electrode placed on forehead or
earlobe
Chin rest is preferred
Very similar to an EMG
Diodes attached to the body
Ground diode attached to another part of
the body
Bioopitical signal acquired, amplified,
and filtered.
From my research, all EOGs are
essentially of the same design, the only
differences I could find is that of the
different chip manufacturers
The most prominent limitation is with the
biosignals being weak and with a lot of
noise.
Currently, we pick up the signals using
the same diodes as an EMG.
Possible improvements would be
circulated around the diodes picking up
the signals and getting closer to
theoretical values for all circutry.
