INTRODUCTION TO PRESSURE VESSELS

AND
DESIGN PROCEDURES

By: Teferi S. (Design Engineering Stream)

PRESSURE VESSELS

Pressure vessels are the containers for fluids under high pressure.

TYPES OF PRESSURE VESSELS

There are three main types of pressure vessels in general:
Horizontal Pressure Vessels
Vertical Pressure Vessels
Spherical Pressure vessels
1. HORIZONTAL PRESSURE VESSEL
2. VERTICAL PRESSURE VESSEL
3. SPHERICAL PRESSURIZED STORAGE VESSEL
MAIN COMPONENTS OF
PRESSURE VESSEL
Following are the main components of pressure vessels in general:
Shell
Head
Nozzle
Support
Saddle Support
Skirt Support
Common Failures Of Pressure Vessels

Error in design and construction

Improper operation
Corrosion
Lack of preventative maintenance
RESEARCH METHODOLOGIES
1. ABSTRACT
Its purpose is to provide a summary of the whole report or thesis.
2. INTRODUCTION
Whether propelling aircraft through the sky, ships through the ocean or providing power to
the electrical grid, gas turbine engines have become incorporated into our daily lives. As the world
moves towards a higher dependence on technology, there will be an increased demand for gas turbine
engines to produce power with higher efficiencies [1].
A turbine blade is the individual component which makes up the turbine section of a gas
turbine. The blades are responsible for extracting energy from the high temperature and high pressure
gas produced by the combustor [2].
