INTRODUCTION
Combined cycle plant is a plant that employs more than one
thermodynamic cycle
Combining two or more cycle such as Brayton cycle and Rankine
cycle results in improved overall efficiency
Gas turbine generator generates electricity and waste heat is used to
make steam to generate additional electricity via a steam turbine, this
last step enhances the efficiency of electricity generation

Components
1. Compressor- pressurizes a working fluid
Positive displacement compressors are used for low flow and high head
Centrifugal compressor are medium flow and medium head
Axial flow compressor for high flow and low head
2. Combustor- direct-fired air heater in which fuel is burned almost
stoichiometrically with one- third or less of the compressor
discharge air.
3. Gas turbine-expands the gas and produces power
4. Heat recovery steam generator-exhaust gas is used to convert the
water into steam
continued

4. Steam turbine- expands steam to produce power

High pressure steam turbine
Low pressure steam turbine

5. Condenser-to cool the expanded steam and converted into water

6. Pump-the condensate is pumped back to heat recovery steam
