 Even classical texts quotes different opinions

KANKUSHTA
 Is a plant product as per RasaVaghbata
 Still he quotes other opinions about the drug
 Clearly shows that even in that period the identity of the drug
was doubtful
 Presently a plant product is being used as Kankushta
 Solidified exudate of Garcinia morella
[ Mysore gambose tree ] is used as Kankushta
Difference in opinion about the drug
 According to Bhaluki this is a mineral of Vanga
 According to Dalhana it is the exudate of Swarnaksheeri
 RasaVaghbata opines that it is a plant product obtained in the

foothills of The Himalayas
 Also in R.R.S it is quoted that some consider that this drug is
the feacal matter of a new born elephant
 Again in R.R.S it is mentioned that some others consider it as
the umbilical cord of just born calf of horse
 As per Yadavji Trikamji Acharya it is the solidified exudate of
the tree – Mysore gambose[ Garcinia morella ]
 In Rasarnava it is described as that which has the colour of
coral and is satwarupa in itself is called kankushta

KANKUSHTA
 Nalika kankushta : yellow in colour, heavy, smooth, similar to
rock, soft, with pores and tubular[ salaka sadrisam ]

 Renuka kankushtam : blackish yellow in colour, in powder


form, light in weight, without satva and having lesser qualities
 Sodhana
