High Capacity FD : NANT-D and NANT-E

22
The Next Level

High Capacity
Triple Play: more HD streams

VoD takes a lot of bandwidth

VDSL2 needs to be used to its full potential

Full IP :
An end-to-end IP Network benefits from one IP Stack

complete integration with existing and proved IP Stack (IPD)

Introduction of new technologies in the Access:

o MPLS
o IPv6

23
Advantage of integrating the IPD L2/L3 protocol stack?

Didnt we already have a IP stack in NANT-A?

Yes but not strong enough for the challenges of end-to-end L3 (IP/MPLS)
network

By reusing IPD we are able to

Outperform competition in the L3 IPDSLAM space

Offer a fully integrated access network solution (ISAM + IPD)

The motivation for providing advanced L3 functionality in ISAM are

mainly
Scalability of the network (host table in the connected edge router)

Resilience of the network (fast rerouting)

Security of the network (IP@ better under control than MAC@)

4 Synchronization

64
What is Synchronization?

Two main synchronization mechanism:

- BITS : out-of-band, dedicated physical connection
- Synchronous Ethernet : in-band, using traffic on a uplink

65
Traditional Ethernet

Only synchronization between two peers

Master slave role determined during auto-negation phase

10Base-T no capable of synchronization because of idle time

66
Synchronization : extending Ethernet

Adding DPLL to recover clock and further distribute

DPLL also cleans up clock signal (removing jitter)

Master/slave needs to be set manually for 1000Base-T

67
Support of Synchronization on ISAM

Needs to be AB variant with MCSD daughterboard present

68

5 SFP+ vs XFP

72
NANT-D 10G Support

NANT-D provides 10Gbps link connectivity

NANT-D front plate provides 1 SFP+ port
NCNC-F (R4.1) provides 2 XFP ports

XFP vs. SFP+ technology for 10Gbps support:

SFP+ is physically compatible with SFP

SFP+ is 30% smaller then XFP, hence increased port density is possible

SFP+ has limited power use, hence less potential reach than XFP
SFP+ ports can be easily upgraded from 1Gbps to 10Gbps

Industrial Temperature currently only possible with XFP technology

73
NANT-D 10Gbps Support: use cases

Use cases for 10Gbps capacity overview

Short & middle distances (upto 10km) SFP+
o SFP+ is the cost effective technology to boost bandwidth beyond 2x2.5Gbps/1Gbps LAG
LAG is typically used to boost bandwidth - little need for LAG because of resiliency
o Allows cost reduction on fiber count when using 1 link of 10Gbps (instead of multiple
links of 1Gbps or 2.5Gbps)

Middle & long distances (upto 40km) connectivity not within same CO (XFP)
o XFP technology is needed when Industrial Temperature is required (cabinets, remote
deployments)

6 ISAM 7330 RA Remote Aggregator

75
General Architecture

IDENTIFICATION: The ERAM-A Remote Aggregator is a fully integrated rack-

mount shelf.

2 Product Codes: Defines ERAM-A with and without BITs Interface

Combines NT, ACU, and NTI/O functionality in a single, space-efficient

package.

Functions as a host shelf for up to 24 SEMs or REMs.

Integrated NT Unit
Handles gigabit ethernet switching for xDSL subscribers connected to SEMs and
REMs.
Note: When you configure the ERAM-A Remote Aggregator, you must refer to the
NT unit as the AGNT-A.

76
7330 RA - Features

Functions as a host shelf with no local connections to subscribers.

Has a low profile to maximize density in a rack or cabinet.

Provides 2 10 Gb/s optical Ethernet XFP ports for connectivity to a high-

bandwidth IP services network.

Provides 8 1 Gb/s optical Ethernet SFP ports that are configurable as

UPLINK (Network) ports or DOWNLINK (Expension links).
Provides 16 1 Gb/s optical Ethernet SFP downlink ports for expansion link
connectivity

Collects and manages external alarms received through the integrated NT unit.

Supports up to 16 000 MAC address entries with hardware-assisted aging

Provides local connectivity for a craft terminal
