Safety Program

for
Grinding Machine
I. Introduction
This safety program on grinding machine tackle the
different points on using this machine, its safety
precautions, and safety procedures.

We need the safety program for grinding machines to

avoid accidents and incidents in the workplace. And to
know what to do in case accidents happen.
So that workers that use this machine have the
knowledge on how to operate it, and that they should
know what to do in case failures on this machine come
up.
II. Roles and Responsibilities
Grinding machine technicians run and maintain
machinery that uses an abrasive surface, usually a
wheel, to cut, shape, and smooth raw materials like
stone, metal and glass. Their duties can include
troubleshooting machinery, checking the grinding results
and working with supervisors and engineers to ensure
production needs are met. Grinding machine
technicians also use computerized programming
functions to create intricate patterns or designs. Grinding
machine tech jobs may include second or third shift
work.
III. Definition of Terms
Grinding - reduce to small bits or crush to a fine powder
and to shape, sharpen, or refine with friction.
Machine - device consisting of fixed and moving parts
that modifies mechanical energy and transmits it in a
more useful form.
Power tool - a tool that is actuated by an
additional power source and mechanism other than the
solely manual labor used with hand tools.
Machine tool is a machine for shaping or machine metal
or other rigid materials, usually by cutting,
boring, grinding, shearing, or other forms of deformation.
III. Definition of Terms
Abrasive wheel - a wheel composed of
an abrasive compound and used for various grinding
(abrasive) and abrasive machining operations.
Cutting tool - any tool that is used to remove material
from the workpiece by means of shear deformation.
Deformation - changes in an object's shape or form due
to the application of a force or forces.
Shaping - a material removal process in which a cutting
tool takes mass and shapes a stationary object to
produce a sculpted or plane surface.
III. Definition of Terms
Cutting - the separation of a physical object, into two or
more portions, through the application of an acutely
directed force.
Friction - the force resisting the relative motion of solid
surfaces, fluid layers, and material elements sliding
against each other.
IV. Overview of the
Machine/Power Tool
The grinding machine is a type of tool that is utilized for
grinding work pieces. It basically use an abrasive wheel
as the cutting tool. The rough surface of the abrasive
wheel shreds off small portions of the work piece as
required. It is also known as a grinder.
IV. Overview of the
Machine/Power Tool
A grinder is generally used to precisely shape and finish
the given materials with low surface roughness and high
surface quality. It is primarily a finishing operation that
removes relatively small quantities of metal, to deliver
highly accurate products. However, certain grinding
applications also involve swiftly eliminating high volumes
of metal.
IV. Overview of the
Machine/Power Tool
A bench grinder is manually operated and normally has two wheels of
different grain sizes that are fixed on a floor stand or work bench; to
perform roughing and finishing operations. It is mainly used to shape tool
bits; and repair or make various tools.
A belt grinder includes a machining process to grind metals and other
materials, with the help of coated abrasives. Belt grinding is a versatile
process that involves several kinds of applications such as stock removal
and finishing.
A jig grinder is used for finishing jigs, dies, and fixtures. It grinds holes and
can be used for complicated surface grinding and finishing work. A gear
grinder is used to remove the last few inches of material while
manufacturing high precision gears.
