Laboratory Work
Simulation Work
Name of the Undergraduate
Experiments:

Measurement of real power and reactive

power of induction generator and study of
power direction.
Slip test of asynchronous machine and
assessment of torque-speed curve.
Capacitance calculation of asynchronous
machine as wind turbine.
Experimental set up of real time wind turbine
and data analysis.
Simulation of small scale wind power
generation system and analysis with hands-on
experimental measurement.
Vision of Designing Laboratory
Experiments:
Represent the Materials of Wind Power in
Perfect Way
Considerations of Designing Laboratory
Experiments
Most of the Institutions have no Wind
Turbine Equipments as Laboratory
Very Few Institution have Fundamental
Equipments as Laboratory
Making Co-operative Environment
Making Group of Two or Three Students
Experiment No. 1
Use of Squirrel Cage Induction Motor (SCIM) as
Fixed Speed Wind Turbine:
3- Supply is Given to Stator of SCIM
DC Motor is Coupled with the Induction Motor
Speed is Varied Gradually Until Beyond
Synchronous Speed
Real Power Sign will be Reversed
Reactive Power Maintains Constant Direction

Experiment No 2:

Measurement of Torque and Speed of Squirrel

Cage Induction Motor (SCIM)
Measurement of Slip
Plot of Torque Vs Speed
To Summarize the Relation Between Torque-
Speed Curve and Wind Power Generation
Capture of Wind Energy by aerodynamic System
Operating Region of Wind Turbine:

Experiment No 3:
What Actually will Learn from this Experiment?

To Understand the Relation Between Self-

excited Induction Generator and Islanded
Operation of Wind Turbine without Connecting
to a Power System.
Calculation of Critical Capacitance:
As We Know that Asynchronous Machine
Always Takes Reactive Power for Magnetizing its
Core.
Build-up Process and Residual Magnetism
Method 1: Synchronous Impedance Test
Approach.
Method 2: An Experimental Method can
be Adopted to Calculate the Capacitance
for Any Load Condition even in Full Load
Condition is Required for Self-excited
Induction Generator.
Experiment No 4:
In this Experiment,Two Cases are Considered.
Institutions Where Internally Connected
Wind Turbine is Available, Different Parameters
can be Measured from this Hands on
Experimental Set-up.
All Groups of Students of All Institutions will
Do Some Small Projects in MATLAB Simulink.
Comparison of All Hands on Experiments Results
and Simulink Project Results.

Using MATLAB Simulink
Output of Different Parameters
Graduate Level Design
Graduate Level Study Should be More Advanced
and Specific in Both Cases, Theoretical as well as
Experimental.

So each of the Components (i.e. induction

generator modelling, power converters, blades,
nacelle, hub, gearbox etc.)of Wind Power
Generation System can be Designed by the
Graduate Level Students Through a Proper
Research Work Theoretically as well as
Experimentally.
What Actually will Include in Theoretical
Part ?

Modelling Component
Simulation by Software
Conclusion

It can be Concluded that Students will Get Interest

to Study Further Related to Wind Turbine Who will
Do the Undergraduate Experiments and Students
Those have Some Knowledge about Wind Turbine
from the Undergraduate Experiments They will Get
Some Extra Advantages in Their Research Field.
