EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN

A Planning process of an experiment to get statistically

analyzed data to constructan objective and valid conclusion
(Montgomery, 2005) To minimising errors
What kind of design?
Sample design (amount of sample, plot, etc)
Instrument design (shape, size, etc)
Administration design (resarch cost)
Analysis design (statistically)
Statistically, in biologycal experiment, we
use PARAMETRIC STATISTIC method

Based on those 3 basic principles, we can
divide statistic experimental design into:

CRD with equal

CRD with unequal replication

CRD is commonly used for studies where the experimental material

makes it difficult to use an equal number of replications for all
treatments. Some examples of these are:
Animal feeding experiments where the number of animals for each breed is
not the same
Experiments for comparing body lenght of diffrent species of insect caught
in an insect trap
Experiments that are originally set up with an equal number of replications
but some experimental units are likely to be lost or destroyed during
experimentation

How to Conclude result

H1: There is significance effect from the factor to the
result

SIGNIFICANCY LEVEL > 0,05

F value > F table 1 %
So H0 is accepted
very significance
But if,
F table 5 % <F value< F table 1 %
SIGNIFICANCY LEVEL< 0,05
there is significance effect
So, H0 is rejected which means H1 is accepted
F value < F table 5 %
There is no significancy

F1= db perlakuan = t-1; F2= db galat=n(t-1)

F table 1% = 2,18 F tabel 5%=3,00

Based on the result sig < 0,005 and F value= 8,55 (more than F table 1%) , we can conclude that,
There is a very significance effect from kind of herbisides, herbicides dosages and aplication time on the
growth of Oryza sativa

Tejo is a student of animal physiology laboratory. For this latest semester he has
conducts an experiment on Gurame fish. He used 11 pools with the wides about 100
m2/pool, and gave 3 treatments (variance of total density of juveniles sowed) about
(a) 5 kg (37 fish); (b) 10 kg(74 fish) and (c) 20 kg (148 fish). In this experiment, Tejo has
replicates the treatment 4 times for a and b and 3 times replication on c. From the
total of body weight measured (gr) from each pool Tejo has took the datas (mean):
Replication Treatments (kg/100m2) Total
5 10 20
1 382,5 350,5 285,0
2 379,6 345,6 276,3
3 380,0 351,3 280,7
4 375,9 340,6 -
Total 1518,0 1338,0 842,0 3748
Mean 379,5 347,0 280,7 340,7
Please help Tejo to analyse the data!
Conclusion:
Perlakuan penebaran benih memberikan hasil yang sangat signifikan terhadap bobot tubuh
ikan gurame
Conclusion

To conduct the experience with many total amount of

sample and more than two independent variable, we can
use one way ANOVA (1 factor included) or two way
ANOVA (equals or more than 2 factors)
The differences between CRD with Equal replication and
CRD with unequal replication are: total replication of each
methods, number of sample/treatment, total of dF, and the
different statistic analysis method using SPSS (Welchs test).
There is no differences in F value between manual
calculation method and SPSS calculation method
