Network convergence & Customer expectations

What is convergence?
Mobile and fixed networks get together
This development is coming mainly from the fixed side as those networks
get more and more mobile
Main challenge is to find a durable way to connect these two different
networks while service levels are maintained and transfer the network
specific advantages to the other network (e.g. fix numbers on mobile
networks, SMS and MMS-services on fixed networks)
What are the customer expectations?
Communication for voice and datacalls with one device
Wants to benefit from the advantages offered by the different networks
Doesnt care on which technology is used to deliver the service, most
important is the functionality and the pricing of the service
The price will distinguish the situation of being in a fixed environnement (eg
at home), or in an office situation with a requirement to be on-the-move
(price premium)
The customer also expects the network speed & quality to be everywhere &
on the same level;

Key Benefits Of HSPA+

HSPA+ enhances mobile broadband with data rates up to 42 Mbps

in R8 while R7 enables up to 28 Mbps downlink data rates.
HSPA+ doubles the data capacity over HSPA and more than
doubles voice capacity over WCDMA,
reducing the cost of delivering voice or data services (more efficient voice
over HSPA+ can also be used to free up data capacity).
HSPA+ enhances the end-user experience with lower latency,
Faster call set-up time, improved always-on experience and a longer talk
time.
HSPA+ multicarrier further enhances the broadband experience.
HSPA+ R8 doubles the data rates to all users and can significantly increase
the bursty application capacity, e.g., Web browsing.
HSPA+ is the optimal solution for single and aggregated 5 MHz
carriers,
and provides similar performance as LTE for the same bandwidth and using
the same number of antennas.
HSPA+ is the natural evolution of HSPA at a lower cost,
enabling an incremental and cost-effective upgrade that leverages existing
assets.

Definisi LTE (sumber: Wikipedia)

LTE is the latest standard in the mobile network technology tree

that previously realized the GSM/EDGE and UMTS/HSxPA
network technologies that now account for over 85% of all mobile
subscribers. LTE will ensure 3GPPs competitive edge over other
cellular technologies.
LTE is a set of enhancements to the Universal Mobile
Telecommunications System (UMTS) which will be introduced in
3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) Release 8.
Much of 3GPP Release 8 will focus on adopting 4G mobile
communications technology, including an all-IP flat networking
architecture.
3GPP LTE, sering disebut juga sebagai teknologi 4G pada
spektrum 3G, sementara 4G (LTE Advanced) menunggu
spektrum frekuensi definitif dari WARC

Definisi SAE

System Architecture Evolution (SAE) is the core

network architecture of 3GPP's future LTE wireless
communication standard.
SAE is the evolution of the GPRS Core Network,
with some differences:
simplified architecture
All IP Network (AIPN)
support for higher throughput and lower latency radio
access networks (RANs)
support for, and mobility between, multiple heterogeneous
RANs, including legacy systems as GPRS, but also non-
3GPP systems (say WiMAX)
