TRADE UNION HISTORY

Trade Union at Hitachi was established in 2000, supposedly in 1998 the


trade union was to be established but there was a slight problem and lack
of members then the trade union was set up in 2000.

To set up a trade union in a factory there must be 70 percent of votes to


hold a union at the factory . For example, if there are 100 employees
working there then at least 70 people agree to enter the union and can not
balance their votes must be more. The number of trade unions in Hitachi
has so far been 288.

Trade Union at Hitachi was established in 2000 under the EIW (Electrical
Industry Workers Union) based in Subang Jaya. EIW is under the MTUC. If
EIW stuck in in solving a problem they would refer MTUC.
The majority who joined Hitachi's trade union members were Malays.

Trademark or trade union among Hitachi's workers is "KESAH" which means the
trade union always takes into account the workers

TRADE UNION BACKGROUND

Hitachi Electronics has been incorporated in Malaysia, Bangi, at Lot 12,


JalanKemajuan, Bangi Industrial Estate, Bandar Baru Bangi Selangor Darul Ehsan
43650, in January 18, 1989. It is located in Bangi Industrial area which is 35km
away from Kuala Lumpur and KLIA and 70km from the main port. In 8 November
1999, Hitachi was officially marked the beginning of Hitachi Electronic Product
Malaysia (HEPM's) climb to the top.

This auspicious day happens when the former Prime Minister of Malaysia Tun Dr.
Mahathir Mohamad stepping into HEPM's new premises in Bandar Baru Bangi to
officiate the Official Opening Ceremony. The paid up capital was RM30 Million.
They started to manufacture Optical Data Storage (ODS) Products, DVD Camera,
LCD, Tuner, LCS and PDP (Plasma TV).
All three main Hitachi manufacturing factories are located in Bangi Industrial
Park:

I. Hitachi Electronics Malaysia (HEPM): Produces Hitachi electronics


products.
ii. Hitachi Consumer Products Malaysia (HCPM): Produces consumer
products.

In Hitachi, the management recognizes Union as the exclusive Collective Bargaining

company shall not grant better terms and conditions of employment to employees
who are eligible for Union membership but who are not members of the Union.

Sometimes an issue is denied by the superiors caused by economic situations and


problems. When the trade union is formed, the collective agreement is a collective
agreement held every 3 years that collects various issues.

During collective bargaining all members are not allowed to participate in and
participate in mutual discussions. Only those who have only posts such as the union
leaders and the appointed rulers for the season are allowed to go together for
discussion.
