ACID AND ALKALINE REACTION
The reaction also call neutralisation or titration method

Neutralisation is the reaction between acid and base to produce water

and salt.

Acid + base salt + water

Acid-base Titration is a quantitative analysis method to determine the

amount required to neutralize a precise known amount of alkali. Acid-
base indicator is used to determine the final level achieved.

It involves the addition of acid where the concentration is known, drop by

drop into an either unknown or known concentration of alkaline solution.

The addition is made until the amount of acid added is sufficient to

neutralize all the alkaline. This process is called the final level.
Example of salt can produce with
this method:-
ACID ALKALINE salt
HCl NaOH NaCl
2HNO3 Zn(OH)2 Zn(NO3)2
H2SO4 Fe(OH)2 FeSO4
H2S Ca(OH)2 CaS
H2CO3 Pb(OH)2 PbCO3

method :-
ACID AND METAL REACTION
Acid react with metal will produce salt and hydrogen gas
Put metal powder into a beaker with the acid and heat
until reaction finish yet.
Filter out the excess metal powder.
Put the filteration product in a beaker and heat the
solution until boiling point. The solution become
satureted.
When the solution cold, we can the crystal of the salt.
Filter the crystal and drying it with filteration paper.

SALT QUALITATIVE ANALYSIS

Salt qualitative analysis is used to identify

cation and anion within a salt.
Salt qualitative analysis steps
early physical characteristic test (colour, solvency
and physical condition)
Effect of heat towards salt and gas testing
Anion confirmation test
Cation test with natrium hydroxide solution, NaOH
and ammonium solution, aquaes NH3
Cation confirmation test
The identity of solids can be found
according to the colour
Colour Deduktion
Black solids Probably copper (II) oxide
Probably triiron tetraoxide
Green Solids Probably copper(II) oxide

Probably iron (III) salt

Reddish-Brown Solids Probably iron (III) salt
Yellow solids while hot and white Confirmation of zinc oxide
when cold

Reddish-Brown solids while hot Confirmation of lead(II)oxide

and white when cold
0.50 g of excess magnesium powder
reacts with 50 cm3 of Hidrochloric
acid, HCl 0.8 mole dm-3 until complete.
Count the unreacted Magneseum
powder mass.
The mole amount of Hidrochloric Acid, HCl
used

= MV
1000
= 0.8 x 50
1000
= 0.04 mol
Information from question : ? mole 0.04
mole
chemical equation :
Mg(s) + 2HCl(aq) >>>> MgCl2 (aq) +
H2 (g)

Information from equation: 1 mole 2

mole

According to the chemical equation, 1 mole of

Magneseum reacts completely with 2 moles of
hydrochloric Acid, HCl.
Thus, the Magneseum mole amount that reacts to 0.04 moles of Hidrochloric Acid, HCl :-

= x mole amount of Hidrochloric Acid, HCl

= x 0.04
= 0.02 mol

Magneseum mass that reacts = 0.02 x 24

= 0.48 g

Magneseum mass that reacts = 0.50 0.48

= 0.02 g
