Connectors and binectors

Connectors and binectors are elements which are used to exchange
signals between individual function blocks.
Connectors can be likened to storage locations which are used to archive
"analog" signals.

Connectors and binectors

Function blocks archive the binary (digital) output information in binary
connectors, the binectors. Binectors can therefore be likened to storage
locations used for storing binary signals.
On account of their definition, binectors can only assume the two states "0"
(logically no) and "1" (logically yes).

OP1S Operator Control Panel

The operator control panel (OP1S) is an optional input/ output device which can be used for
parameterazing and starting up the units. Plain- text displays greatly facilitate
parameterization.

The OP1S has a non- volatile memory and can permanently store complete sets of
parameters. It can therefore be used for archiving sets of parameters but, first, the
parameter sets must be read out (upread) from the units. Stored parameter sets can also be
transferred (downloaded) to other units.

The OP1S and the units to be operated communicate with each other via a serial interface
(RS485) using the USS protocol.

The OP1S can be operated at baud rates of 9.6 kBd and 19.2 kBd and is capable of
communicating with up to 32 slaves (addresses 0 to 31). It can therefore be used in a point-
to- point link (e. g. during initial parameterization) or within a bus configuration.

The plain- text displays can be shown in one of five different languages (German, English,
Spanish, French, Italian). The language is chosen by selecting the relevant parameter for
the slave in question.

Replacing components (1)

The SIMOVERT Master Drives converters are operated on high voltages.
Maintenance and servicing work must be carried out by qualified personnel.
Only spare parts authorized by the manufacturer may be used.
Owing to the DC link capacitors, the unit remains at a dangerously high potential for at
least 5 minutes after disconnection from the supply. The unit must not therefore be opened
for at least 5 minutes after supply disconnection.
Voltage may be present at the power terminals and control terminals even when the motor
is stationary.

If you need to work on the unit when it is switched on:

Do not touch any live parts.
Make sure that you use proper measuring instrumentation and protective clothing.
Stand on a non-earthed, insulated and anti-ESD surface.

Failure to observe this warning can result in death, severe personal injury or substantial
property damage.

DA-51-221101
Siemens SIMOVERT MasterDrives

Replacing components (2)

The board contains components which can be destroyed by electrostatic
discharge. These components can be easily destroyed if not carefully
handled. If you have to handle electronic boards, please observe the
following:
Electronic boards should only be touched when absolutely necessary.
You must ensure that your own body has been discharged before you touch
a board (the best way to do this is to touch an earthed, conductive object
such as a socket-outlet earth contact).
Boards must not come into contact with highly insulating materials - e.g.
plastic foils, insulated desktops, articles of clothing made from man-made
fibres.
Boards may only be placed on surfaces which are conductive.
When soldering, the soldering iron tip must be grounded.
Boards and components should only be stored and transported in
conductive packaging (e.g. metalized plastic boxes, metal containers).
If the packing material is not conductive, the boards must be wrapped in a
conductive packaging material, e.g. conductive foam rubber or household
