IIT JAM Exam Details

About IIT JAM Exam


IIT JAM is Joint Admission test for MSc. It is an entrance test to get admitted in IITs,
NITs, or IISc to pursue M.Sc (Four Semesters), Joint M.Sc.-Ph.D, M.Sc.-M.Tech.,
M.Sc.-Ph.D Dual Degree & other courses.

IIT JAM exam is conducted in seven subjects:


Physics
Chemistry
Mathematics
Biological Science
Biotechnology
Mathematical Statistics
Geology

Before taking admission, candidates must satisfy the eligibility criteria to appear in
the IIT JAM examination.
IIT JAM Exam Eligibility Criteria
Candidates must satisfy the below eligibility criteria to apply for IIT JAM Exam:

You must have a Bachelors degree from any stream from any recognized university.
Both Indian & Foreign candidates are eligible.

There is no age limit for IIT-JAM exam.

Candidates appearing for their final year exams are also eligible.

Candidates must have minimum of 55% marks for General & OBC and 50% marks for SC, ST categories.

At the time of admission, all admitted candidates will have to submit a physical fitness certificate from a
registered medical practitioner in the prescribed form.

At the time of admission, the admitted candidates may also have to undergo a physical fitness test by a
medical board constituted by the Admitting Institute. In case a candidate is not found physically fit to
pursue his/her chosen course of study, his/her admission is liable to be cancelled.
IIT JAM Exam Pattern
Below is the exam pattern for JAM Examination:

Exam will be organized through online mode.


Exam will be in English language only.
There are total of 60 questions of 100 marks.
Duration will be of 3 hours.
The exam is divided into three sections:

Section A- 30 MCQs of 50 marks: Out of a total of 30 questions, 10 questions are of one mark each and
20 questions are of two marks each. There is negative marking of 1/3 mark for each question answered
incorrectly out of the one mark question and 2/3 marks are deducted for each incorrect question which
is of two marks each. There is no negative marking for any question left unanswered.

Section B- 10 MSQs of 20 marks: Each correct answer in this section is awarded two marks. There is no
negative marking in this section.

Section C- 20 NAT of 30 marks: Out of the total 20 questions, first 10 questions are of one mark each
and other 10 questions are of two marks each. There is no negative marking in this section as well.
IIT JAM Application Form
Filling IIT JAM Online Application form is the initial phase to enter the admission procedure of IITs
(Indian Institutes of Technology) and IISc (Indian Institute of Science).

To appear for the IIT JAM Exam 2018, aspirants need to complete the initial formalities of applying
for the exam. The mode of applying and submitting your educational, age and other requisite details
is ONLINE.
