 INTRODUCTION

Student`s industrial work experience scheme (SIWES) is a program

designed to help student manifest their theoretical knowledge on site
and also to expose them to industrial actions of their various fields at
their fourth session in the University.
 BRIEF HISTORY OF ONDO STATE ASPHALT COMPANY
Ondo state asphalt company is a government owned company which started
operation in the year 1991. its under the leadership of Engineer Kehinde
Osikoya whom is the chairman of the company, Hes a registered civil engineer
and a fellow of the Nigeria society of Engineers. ONDO STATE ASPHALT
COMPANY was founded on sound professionalism, resourcefulness, integrity
and affinity for service excellence. Its main focus is the provision of best
Engineering Services in road construction, rehabilitation of roads, road
maintenance and repair works. The Company is located at km 16, Ondo road,
Aponmu, Akure, Ondo state.

 DRAINAGE CONSTRUCTION

When it rains, some water naturally seeps into the ground. The rest makes
its way through drainage systems, into rivers and creeks and eventually
into the bays, or directly to the bays through storm water beach outlets.
The drainage system is an essential part of living in a city or urban area, as
it reduces flood damage by carrying water away.
The removal of this excess water is known as drainage system
Steps in drainage construction :-
Level taking
excavation of trenches
Blinding
Preparation of reinforcement
Concrete base
Form work
concrete casting
Level taking:-This is the process by which the ground of different
elevation is measured to cut or fill.

Levelling is the measurement of geodetic height using an optical levelling

instrument and a level staff or rod having a numbered scale. Common
levelling instruments include the spirit level, the dumpy level, the digital
level, and the laser level.
STAGES IN DRAINAGE CONSTRUCTION
 BLASTING OF ROCK

Rock is any form of soil. However, their sizes differ from a form to another and
whenever a big rock is expected to be excavated, it is advised to blast the rock.
Blasting of rock involves the following processes;
Drilling
Inserting dynamite into the hole
Threading
Ignition

During the course of industrial training at ONDO STATE ASPHALT COMPANY

(OSAC) the experience gained are as follow.
Rehabilitation of road
Construction of drainage
Construction of pedestrian lane

 CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION

CONCLUSION
In line with the objectives of the Students Industrial Work Experience
scheme (SIWES) the Industrial Training experience has been very insightful
and interesting and has helped in witnessing the industry-based application of
known theoretical laws and principles taught in school. The training has also
done its part in educating me on interpersonal relationship with co-workers and
the values enjoyed in working as a team.
 RECOMMENDATIONS

Considering my experience over the period of the duration of the Industrial

Training and the existing situation of things in the country, I would like to make
the following recommendations:
Government should ensure that the stipend allocated to the program is
disbursed and reimbursed during the six month of action. In order to serve its
real purpose.
Students should have it in mind that the period of the Industrial Training is not
a money-making period. Rather, it is a period when they should be ready to
learn new things and display high level of seriousness coupled with a sense of
responsibility to learn from professionals in their field of study.
