What is virtual
reality?
a high-end user interface that
involves real-time simulation and
interactions through multiple
sensorial channels
users can interact with a virtual
environment through the use of
standard input devices such as the
keyboard or multimodal devices
This short video will explain everything you need to know about virtual
reality!
History

1950s - flight simulators were built by US Air Force to train

student pilots
1965 - a research program for computer graphics called
The Ultimate Display was laid out
1988 - commercial development of VR began
History
1991 - first commercial entertainment VR system "Virtuality"
was released

World Database
Types of virtual reality
Immersive VR

provides an immediate, first-

person experience
immersiveness is an
important element of virtual
reality applications, such as
VR gaming and VR therapy
often equipped with a Head
Mounted Display (HMD)
Types of virtual reality
Augmented Reality

the seamless merging of real

space and virtual space
integrates the computer-
generated virtual objects into
the physical world which
become, in a sense, an equal
part of our natural
environment
Types of virtual reality
Telepresence

allows a person to feel as if

they were present at a place
other than their true location
the remotely-controlled robot
(or telechir) and the human
operator can be located at a
great distance from each
other
Types of virtual reality
Through the window

uses a conventional
computer monitor to display
the 3D virtual world
like immersive virtual reality,
this provides a first-person
experience
Types of virtual reality
Mirror world

provides a second-person
experience in which the
viewer stands outside the
imaginary world, but
communicates with
characters or objects inside it
uses a video camera as an
input device
Types of virtual reality
Distributed VR

the idea is that a simulated

world runs not on one
computer system, but on
several
the computers are connected
over a network and people
using those computers are
able to interact in real time,
sharing the same virtual
world
Where is VR used?

MEDICINE

used for practicing

performing surgery and
teaching new skills in a safe,
controlled environment
Where is VR used?

MANUFACTURING

its easy to modify and high

efficient
has a low cost
Where is VR used?

ENTERTAINMENT

mostly used in video games

for better experience
Where is VR used?

FASHION

includes VR software for

building virtual fashion stores
helps with clothes design
Pros and cons

PROS CONS

gives detail views technology is still experimental

technology is still experimental high cost
effective communication users get addicted to the virtual
world
used in various fields
training in VR environment is not
users have awesome
real
experiences
