on 10jan2015, at 00:00Hrs. Checked and found there was a actual blast in the Booster pump 44, CT cabinet [below the VCB]. MICOM relay Measurements During root cause analysis we found there was an actual high current in all three phases. After further study, we found high current initiates in Phase 2 and 3 first then due to unbalancing of current it increased in Phase 1 also. Testing Performed IR test with 10KV voltage for 1min, individually on motor cable performed and found average values 5 T. IR test with 1KV voltage for 1min, individually on VFD-motor cable performed and found average values 6 G. IR test with 5KV voltage for 1min, on transformer HV Ground performed and found average values 5 T. IR test with 500V voltage for 1min, on transformer LV Ground performed and found average values 5 T. IR test with 1kV voltage for 1min, on transformer HV LV performed and found average values 5 T. IR test with 10KV voltage for 1min, individually performed on Front and Back Insulators of all 3 phases and found average values 5 T. 11kv VCB out
Measurement CT and then to VCB out
There was a hole in
the cabinet, which is Motor cable connected with the cable cell. Core CT Blast Core CT Abnormality Noted Core CT blast, due to high primary current. Second level of Over current occurred in MICOM relay and trip the VCB, I>> = 2.5In, for 20ms. Current in the Ground also floated but didnt trip the breaker, Ie= 1Ie, for 900ms What Actually Went Wrong After root cause analysis, it was confirmed that there was a actual phase to phase shorting, which tends to increase the huge amount of current among all the phases. After further checking we checked and found a dead rat lying bellow the L1 measurement CT. It was clear that a Rat was the cause for short circuit between ph2-ph3. Due to the unbalancing of current, huge current floated in the ground which was huge in measurement, as huge as Core CT also Blast. Core CT [ratio = 25/1amps] but it sustain up to 250Amps but after that it blast. In MICOM relay, Ie noted = 455Amps.
