The Battle of

Troy
Menelaus Helen Paris

Long ago Prince Paris from Troy sailed to Sparta.

Sparta was ruled by a King called Menelaus.

Menelaus was married to a beautiful lady called Helen.

She was said to be the most beautiful woman in the world .

Paris fell in love with Helen when he saw her.

One night he stole her from Menelaus and he brought her back to Troy with

him.
Menelaus was really angry.
He decided to get his army together and follow Paris to Troy.
Menelaus had a very strong army.
He had some of the greatest Greek heroes, Odysseus and
Achilles, on his side.
They set sail with a thousand ships to get Helen back.

were welcomed.

Hector was a great warrior and he

had a great army.

He realised that a war would soon

Hector begin over Helen.

walls all around it.

The Trojans knew nobody could get

past their walls.

They waited for the Greeks to arrive.

skilled archer and took his bow and arrow. He aimed it at
Achilles.
But, Achilles was a very special hero. He was so strong that
he could not be killed so easily.
Nobody knew, except for the Gods, that Achilles had only
one weak spot his heel.
The Greek God, Apollo, guided Pariss arrow so that it hit
Achilles heel and he died.
The war had lasted ten
years and no side
looked like they were
going to win.
The walls of Troy were
The Wooden too strong and the
Greeks could not get
Horse of through.
Then, one day
Troy Odysseus had a unique
idea.
He told the Greeks to
build a giant wooden
horse, big enough to
hold soldiers inside.
The Greeks built the horse and hid soldiers inside.

Then they all got on their ships and moved them so the Trojans

would think they had gone home.

The people of Troy thought that the Greeks had left the horse

as a gift.

So they carried it into the city and began to celebrate.

When the Trojans had
fallen asleep, the soldiers
came out of the horse.
They opened the gate
and let the Greek army
into the city of Troy.
