CAUSTIC SODA
Caution !
Caustic soda in all forms is a highly corrosive
material that can cause serious burns to the eyes
and skin. Eye contact of only a few seconds can
cause permanent damage, even blindness; short
contact with the skin may cause marked irritation
or chemical burn.
CAUSTIC SODA
Caustic soda or sodium hydroxide (NaOH) is
chemically reactive with a wide variety of organic
and inorganic chemicals. In all its forms, including
solution form, caustic soda is highly corrosive and
can cause serious burns to the eyes and skin. Eye
contact of only a few seconds can cause permanent
damage, even blindness. Short contact with the
skin can cause marked irritation or a chemical
burn.
The hazards of working with caustic soda
make it important that all persons handling
caustic soda follow strict procedures for
safety.
Companies using caustic soda are urged
to inform and train their employees on
appropriate safety practices and first aid
Periodic safety meetings and safety inspections are
recommended to minimize the hazards of caustic soda.
Safety meetings should serve to remind all
employees of the safe handling procedures you
have developed, ensure their compliance with the
precautions and practices required to handle caustic
soda safely, and reinforce previous training in what
to do in the event of an accident
