FINANCIAL
INTELLIGENCE

June 2017
We must teach students how to
become financially savvy and it is never too
early to start.
Children must discover the relationships
between earning, spending and saving. They
begin with simple money concepts, such as
counting coins, putting them into a piggy
bank and making purchases. The key is to
teach them a concept and let them try it out.
We included all students in our
Erasmus+ project Young Enterprising
Europeans and started financial education of
students in the second grade.
On 31 October 2016, Mrs Vidovi from
Erste Bank came to our school to talk with
second graders about the history of money and
about saving money. Children were given
posters of popular characher Medo tedo,
colouring books and piggy banks for every
class.
Students were
interested in the topic
and very active.
They got leaflets
for parents about
opening savings
accounts for
children.
Some of the areas we should focus are:
- the concept and value of money
- the importance of budgeting and how to budget
- how to save
- how to set financial goals
- how to earn money
- how to manage money
- the importance of innvesting
Students should develop their financial
intelligence in order to become successful
entrepreneurs or managers
In March
2017, during
European
Money Week,
we also had a lot
of activities. One
of them was a
lecture for
parents and
students about
managing money
at different ages.
We gave
brochures about
it to all parents.
FINA
Financial Agency (Fina) is the leading Croatian company in
the field of financial mediation and the application of
information technologies.
Mrs Danica Rimac, manager of Fina Vinkovci came to our
school twice to talk to students about finincial intelligence
and ways of developing it.
On 18 May she had a very interesting
lecture and workshop for 39 students from
grade seven.
Mrs Rimac held
another lecture on 31 May
2017
for 44 students from grade
eight.
