1.Definition and purpose of Driving
test measurement
Definition: Is type of measurement of network quality during
driving or moving.
Purpose:
Testing the coverage and quality of network (using in
benchmarking, launching service or optimizing
period).
Measurement the quality of network after deploying
the parameter or new technology.
Measurement during swapping equipment.
Measurement when receiver customer reflection,
deploy new site or optimize bad cells daily.
Measurement for Benchmarking

2.Introduce measurement
software

There are many type of software supporting driving test for 2G and 3G such as:
Nemo (NSN), TEMS (Ericsson), QXDM (qualcomm), Probe (Huawei).
Currently used in Viettel is TEMS

3.Type of measurement usually
used in the network
a. 2G Network
Measurement coverage in idle mode
Measurement quality of network, evaluate the KPI: CDR,
CSSR, HOSR, C/I, SQI in active mode for short call.
b. 3G Network
Measurement coverage of 3G in active mode for long call
Measurement quality of network, evaluate the KPI: CS CDR,
CS CSSR, SHOSR in active mode for short call.
Measurement the speed of download and upload in 3G
network.

Step 4: Configuring the measurement

If measurement in 2G only or 3G only mode lock 2G network or 3G

network
If measurement in dual mode configuring UE at unlock mode
If measurement for one cell 2G or 3G lock cell
Measurement in idle mode: Do not need to configure command
sequence window.
Measurement in active mode: Dial in command sequence window.
Configuration in command sequence window for 2G and 3G is same.

4.The step to implement measurement

A few notes during measurement:

Ensuring GPS always connected during measurement
Looking the screen to track log file
Ensuring the speed of car stably

6/2/17 16
5. Main parameters during measurement

2G network: In sheet overview has some windows: GSM current

channel, GSM radio parameter, GSM serving and neighbor, GSM speech
quality index that displays information about:
GSM Cell name, cell ID, LAC.
BSIC (Base Station Identity Code)
ARFCN ( Absolute radio frequency channel number): Radio frequency
RxLev (Receiver level): Receiver signal strength on BCCH channel.
RxQual (Receiver quality): Receiver quality
FER: Frame Error rate
BER: Bit error rate
SQI (Speech quality): Quality of voice
C/I : Carrier per interference,
Currently used Time slot
DTX (Discontinuous Transmission)
TA (Time advance): Distance from MS to BTS.

5. Main parameters during measurement
3G Network: In order to display the main information in 3G network,
configure as below:
Presentation WCDMA Serving/Active set + Neighbor.
Presentation WCDMA Radio parameter
Presentation WCDMA Speech quality
Main information:
Cell name, Cell ID, LAC.
UARFCN (Utran Absolute radio frequency channel number):
Frequency of 3G
PSC (Primary scramming code): In order to distinguish different
cells.
RSCP (Received Signal code power): Signal strength of CPICH
channel of 3G cell.
EcNo: Energy Chip per Noise
SQI: Speed quality index

5. Main parameters during measurement

AS (active set):
Main serving
cells .

MN (monitor
set): Cells have
relation.

DN (detected
neighbor): in
miss relation
case

5. Main parameters during measurement

Other information can display in sheet Signal as:

Layer 3 Message: Including messages of UL and DL
between MS and CN.
Events:
o Call setup
o Call Established
o Call drop
o Handover failure.

6.Analysing a few common failures
in 2G
Feeder failure

6/2/17 24
phenomenon
Drop due to miss Relation 2G-2G
phenomenon

Phenomenon: MS in cell HNI2334, HO to cell HNI2332, after that move to corner and
RxLev reduces (-85dBm), bad C/I (<10), high FER Actual, then call drop.
Dropped Cell: HNI2332
Cause: HNI2332 dont has relation with HNI4753 so cannot handover to, FER Actual
increases highly and drop.
Actions:
Add relation between HNI2332 - HNI4753, HNI2335 - HNI4753, HNI2338 -
HNI4753.
Adjust coverage of HNI2332, HNI2335, HNI4753 to be main serving cells for this
road.
Drop due to low signal
Drop due to low
signal, receiver
strength reduces
suddenly and
drop.

6/2/17 26
Drop due to failure of antennafeeder
system

Cause: HNI9415 and HNI9416 are failure in antenna system.

Action: Check the site failure and see the failure from feeder system, one connector is
loose repair connector, replace feeder, antenna, RRU
