BUSBAR 1 BUSBAR 2

F1: External Fault

BBZ 1 CHECK BBZ 2

Overall fault setting between 10% and 50% of minimum fault current
The fault setting of the check zone and the minimum fault setting of the individual discriminating zones shall be equal to
approximately 50% of the full load rating of the associated busbar.
The maximum fault setting of the individual discriminating zones shall not exceed of the full load rating of the associated
busbar.
When two or more sections of busbar are connected together via section disconnectors and the combined discriminating
zone gives rise to a fault setting in excess of the full load current rating of the associated busbar, the minimum fault
setting of the individual discriminating zones shall be reduced below 50% to achieve a combined fault setting equal to or
less than the full load rating of the associated busbar.

New feature - Sustained Fault Monitor

The 7SR23 is connected to

measure unbalance current.
The sustained flow of fault
current after a differential
protection operation indicates
either a failed CB condition or
fault in a protection blind spot.

Where one of the circuit

breakers fails to trip the relay
cannot inherently identify the
failed CB, it can measure
continued flow of differential
current only.

Can be used in conjunction with

circuit position monitoring.

New feature Circuit Position Monitoring

CB position monitoring can utilise either the

IEC61850 comms or be hardwired between
binary inputs of the 7SR23 and CB auxiliary
switches, in effect producing a replica of the
busbar.

This feature can be used for example on

double busbar installations to issue trip
outputs to the relevant circuit breakers. Back-
tripping logic from circuit CB fail inputs can
also utilise these busbar replica tripping
outputs.

Where differential current continues to flow

and CB status indicates that all CBs are open
then this indicates a blind-spot fault has
occurred.

New feature - Zone In/Out Switching

In/Out switching of the high impedance protections is provided to aid commissioning and testing.
When the Zone Switch Out feature is initiated the operation of the differential protection and CT
supervision monitoring is inhibited.
User selected output contacts assigned to CT50 are operated when Zone Switchout CT Shorting is
selected to Enabled. The connection of these contacts in the protection scheme ensures that any
unbalance current in the differential circuit does not flow through the relay/stabilising resistor.
