Multi-fuel Domestic Improved

Cookstove NEERDHUR

Cost-Benefit
Analysis
Why not LPG ?? Why Improved Cookstoves??

Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) , about 8,000 crore rupees has been reserved
for provide 50 million (5 crores) LPG connections to the poor family units by 2019.

As per the Indian National Census 2011, around 780 million people (Assuming 6
persons/house = 130 million household) are estimated to use solid cooking fuels, of which
biomass is predominant. (WHO 2012).

GAP : Clean cooking access to 39.12 % of the rural household using solid fuel by 2019.

The supply of LPG fuels (Refills) is not always dependable ??

Availability of free biomass and agriculture residue in rural areas.

INTRODUCTION

As per the Indian National Census 2011, Distribution by state of households

around 780 million people are estimated to using biomass/coal as their main
use solid cooking fuels, of which biomass is cooking fuel in 2005. (IIPS, 2007)
predominant.
HEALTH IMPACTS

The Global Burden of Disease 2010 (GBD) ranked air pollution as a

leading cause of death and disability in India.

Household Air Pollution HAP) plus exposures in the ambient

environment (ambient air pollution AAP) was responsible for
approximately 1.6 million premature deaths and 49 million Disability-
Adjusted Life Years (DALYs) in India.

HAP and AAP account for 9% of the national disease burden, and
comprised the single largest risk factor .
