DIFFERENT TYPES OF

SIGNAL CABLE CONNECTOR

AND THEIR USE
VGA- AVideo Graphics
Array(VGA)connectoris a three-row
15-pin DE-15connector. The 15-
pinVGA connectorwas provided on
many video cards, computer
monitors, laptop computers,
projectors, and high definition
television sets.
Silicon GraphicsandIBM RISCworkstations, as well as some
displays fromApple Computer,NeXT Computerand
Intergraph Corporation . The 13W3 connector is no longer
used with modern displays, which have generally moved on
toDVI,HDMI, orDisplayPortconnectors. The DB13W3 (but
with high current pins instead of high frequency ones used
for video applications) connector is also used by some3Com
SuperStackEthernet switchesto carryDC power.
The connector contains 10 standard signal pins and 3 larger
positions that can be fitted with either special pins with two
concentric contacts forcoaxial cableor with special high
current pins. When used for video signals on the computer
side, the pins are female but the coaxial connectors in the
large positions are male. The coaxial connectors carry the
video signal split into red, green/gray, and blue; the
standard signal pins carry four grounds, three "sense" pins
used to communicate with the monitor, vertical sync,
horizontal sync, and a composite sync signal.
Digital Visual Interface (DVI) is a video display interface
developed by the Digital Display Working Group (DDWG). The
digital interface is used to connect a video source, such as a
video display controller to a display device, such as a computer
monitor. It was developed with the intention of creating an
industry standard for the transfer of digital video content.

The interface is designed to transmit uncompressed digital video

and can be configured to support multiple modes such as DVI-A
(analog only), DVI-D (digital only) or DVI-I (digital and analog).
Featuring support for analog connections, the DVI specification is
compatible with the VGA interface.[1] This compatibility, along
with other advantages, led to its widespread acceptance over
competing digital display standards Plug and Display (P&D) and
Digital Flat Panel (DFP).[2] Although DVI is predominantly
associated with computers, it is sometimes used in other
consumer electronics such as television sets, video game
consoles,[citation needed] and DVD players.
The Mini-DVI connector is used on certain Apple
computers as a digital alternative to the Mini-VGA
connector. Its size is between the full-sized DVI and
the tiny Micro-DVI.
TheMicro-DVIport is a video connection port used
by Original 2008 Apple MacBook Air laptop
computers. It is smaller than the Mini-DVIport used
by its MacBook sister models. To use the port for
displaying video on a monitor or television that has
a different-style connector, an adapter must be
used.
DMS-59(Dual Monitor
Solution,59pins) is generally used for
computer video cards. It provides two
Digital Visual Interface (DVI) or Video
Graphics Array (VGA) outputs in a
single connector.
The Apple Display Connector (ADC) is a
proprietary modification of the DVI connector
that combines analog and digital video
signals, USB, and power all in one cable.
Apple used ADC for its LCD-based Apple
Cinema Displays and their final CRT displays,
before deciding to use standard DVI
connectors on later models.
transferring uncompressed video
data and compressed or
uncompressed digital audio data
from an HDMI-compliant source
device, such as a display controller,
to a compatible computer monitor,
video projector, digital television, or
digital audio device.[4] HDMI is a
digital replacement for analog video
standards.
Mini-DIN connectors are 9.5 mm in diameter and
come in seven patterns, with the number of pins
from three to nine. Each pattern is keyed in such a
way that a plug with one pattern cannot be mated
with any socket of another pattern. An important
aspect of why each of these 7 mini-DIN connectors
are official standards is because they are each
drastically different from the other, with no
simultaneously and directly overlapping similarities
in (1) pin arrangement, (2) square key size and
position, (3) circular shielding metal skirt notches
and metallic additions - unlike the nonstandard
mini-DIN connectors which may have directly
overlapping characteristics to each other or to the
standard mini-DIN connectors.
AnRCA connector, sometimes called aphono
connectororCinch connector, is a type of
electrical connectorcommonly used to carry audio
and video signals. The connectors are also
sometimes casually referred to asA/V jacks. The
name "RCA" derives from the
Radio Corporation of America, which introduced the
design by the early 1940s for internal connection of
the pickup to the chassis in home radio-phonograph
consoles. It was originally a low-cost, simple design,
intended only for mating and disconnection when
servicing the console. Refinement came with later
designs, although they remained compatible

Manufacturers' Association) is a
French-originated standard and
associated 21-pin connector for
connecting audio-visual (AV)
equipment.

A D-Terminal or D-tanshi ( ) is a type of analog
video connector found on Japanese consumer
electronics, typically HDTV, DVD, Blu-ray, D-VHS and
HD DVD devices. It was developed by the EIAJ
(Electronic Industry Association of Japan) in its
standard, RC-5237, for use in digital satellite
broadcast tuners. In appearance it is a small flat
trapezic connector, the same connector as the AAUI
connector used by Apple Computer for some time to
connect to ethernet.

Some items sold outside Japan use the connector as

well. Notable examples are Canon's XH-A1 DVC
high-definition camcorder and Panasonic's AG-
HVX200 DVCPro HD camcorder.

Mini-VGA connectors are a non-
standard, proprietary alternative
used on some laptops and other
systems in place of the standard VGA
connector, although most laptops use
a standard VGA connector. Apple, HP
and Asus have separate
implementations using the same
name.

35 pin MOLEX "MicroCross" male
connector cables and pinouts
This is the Molex connector originally
developed by Molex Connector Company.
In the connector, cylindrical spring-metal
pins fit into cylindrical spring-metal
sockets. The pins and sockets are held in
a rectangular matrix in a nylon shell. The
connector typically is polarized or keyed
to ensure correct orientation.

Unlike DVI, DFP never achieved widespread

implementation. The connector was used by displays
such as the Compaq Presario FP400, FP500, FP700,
Fp720, 5204, and 5280. It was offered on graphics
cards such as the Xpert LCD, and Rage LT Pro by ATI
Technologies Inc.

DFP was superseded by DVI because of a low

maximum resolution of 1280 1024 (SXGA), whereas
DVI supports much higher resolutions.

DFP monitors can generally be used with a DVI

graphics card with a passive adaptor.

DisplayPort
The Mini DisplayPort (MiniDP or mDP) is a
miniaturized version of the DisplayPort audio-
visual digital interface. It was announced by
Apple in October 2008. As of 2013, all new Apple
Macintosh computers had the port, as did the
LED Cinema Display.
