GRAMMAR FOCUS

Passive Voice

A sentence can be either in active


or
passive voice.
In active sentence, the subject
receives
the action, and in passive the
object
changes being a subject.

Pattern :
Subject + TOBE + Past Participle (V3)

Active : dr. Paul examines a hundred patient in a day.

Passive : a hundred patient are examined by dr. Paul in a


day.

Example :
Active : The disaster produced the bad effects to the
victims last year.
Passive : The victims were produced the bad effects by
the disaster the year before.

Present Continues
Active : The researchers are analyzing the research.
Passive :The research is being analyzed by the
researcher.

Past Continues
Active : The government was increasing the all
taxes this
year.
Passive : The all taxes were increased by the
government this year.

Pattern :

Present Perfect
Subject + Has / Have + been + V3

Past Perfect
Subject + Had + Been + V3

Present Perfect
Active : The campus has announced the new rules to
the students.
Passive : The new rules have been announced to the
students by campus.

Past Perfect
Active : Thousand stones had arranged the Pyramid
before Christ.
Passive : The pyramid had been arranged by Thousand
stones before Christ.
