Desmos is cool!

Here are some examples of what can be done with a graphing calculator and
equations:

Transformation Creation on Families of Linear
Functions

You are going to duplicate some designs by

graphing equations on Desmos.com.

Please follow the directions on the following pages

First Adjust the viewing window
Click on the wrench on the right-hand side of the screen to adjust the viewing
window. You will need to do this for each design. You should see a window that
looks like this:
First Adjust the viewing window
Enter the range of values under the x-axis that are given to you in the problem..
Always put in a step of 1.
First Adjust the viewing window
Enter the range of values under the y-axis that are given to you in the problem..
Always put in a step of 1.
Enter your equations
Enter your equations on the left-hand side and they will graph immediately
Take a screenshot
After you are done, take a screenshot of your design and add it to a new slide

Insert a textbox on the same slide that answers the questions. When it asks what
you noticed about the functions, it is asking about the equations and not the
graph.

If you want to save your design. Create a sign-in account and then save.
1. Rain
Add your screenshot of Rain here.
Rain part 2 - answer this question.
What do you notice about the functions that create the pattern? (Tell me
about the equations and not the graph)!

That the x is the same number but you are just gradually going down 1 by 1
on other side. Like 1x+3 then you go down one like 1x+2
2. Horizon
Add your screenshot of Horizon here.
Horizon part 2 - answer this question.
What do you notice about the functions that create the pattern? (Tell me
about the equations and not the graph)!

The function is just y= blank and it keeps going up a little bit more. You
dont have an x on this one.
3. Triangle
Add your screenshot of Triangle here.
Triangle part 2 - answer this question.
What do you notice about the functions that create the pattern? (Tell me
about the equations and not the graph)!

You just have to find one pair and then make them parallel of each other and
just do y= a number
4. Diamonds
Add your screenshot of Diamonds here.
Diamonds part 2 - answer this question.
What do you notice about the functions that create the pattern? (Tell me
about the equations and not the graph)!

That you have to make them parallel of each other then when they are on the
same side you go up or down a bit depending on what you are.
5. Windmill
Add your screenshot of Windmill here.
Windmill part 2 - answer this question.
What do you notice about the functions that create the pattern? (Tell me
about the equations and not the graph)!

I found where one question is for one line then do the opposite of them like
negative 5 then positive 5 for the other side,
6. Sparkler - you may need to use point slope form
to get some of the equations
Add your screenshot of Sparkler here.
Restricting your domain.
Sometimes to make a design, you may want to graph a line segment instead of a
line. For example, lets say that I want to make a triangle using the equations: y=-
1, y = 2x+1 and y = -2x + 1:

The problem is that I want my

lines to stop at each triangle

vertex. I can do this by restrict-

ing my domain (x values)

Restricting your domain.
Line segment AB in the
triangle starts at the x value of
-1 and ends at the x value of
zero.

When you enter the equation

you enter y = 2x+1 {-1 < x <
B
0}

C
A
Restricting your domain.
Line segment BC in the
triangle starts at the x value of
0 and ends at the x value of 1.

When you enter the equation

you enter y = 2x+1 {0 < x < 1}

C
A
Restricting your domain.
Line segment AC in the
triangle starts at the x value of
-1 and ends at the x value of
1.

When you enter the equation

you enter y = -1 {-1< x < 1}

C
A
Restricting your domain.
You now have a triangle made
up of only segments.
