Testing Solubility in Water

Nicole Lopez
Problem/Question

What solute dissolves the

most in water?
Hypothesis
We think that the salt will be the one
to dissolve the most in the water and
the melted margarine will be the one
that least dissolves.
Materials
4 glasses of water with cup of water in
each
Salt
Sugar
Rubbing alcohol
Melted margarine
tsp measuring spoon
cup measuring cup
Spoons
Procedures
1. Pore cup of water in each of the
glasses
2. Start to add tsp of each of the
solutes to each of the glasses with
water
3. Wait a minute and if the solute
dissolves add another tsp
4. Keep on going until the solute does
not dissolve anymore

Conclusion
Our hypothesis was proved wrong. The
solute that dissolved the most in the
water was the sugar not the salt. The
sugar dissolved by 1 teaspoons
more than the salt. We were right
about the melted margarine being the
one to least dissolve since it would did
not even dissolve at all.
