Lesson 1
Session Goals: By the
end of this session you
will be able to:
Define what is planning.
Know the reasons why
Christians should plan.
Follow a simple steps or
procedures in planning.
 Luke 14:28-30
28For which of you, intending to
build a tower, does not sit down
first and count the cost, whether
he hasenoughto finishit29lest,
after he has laid the foundation,
and is not able to finish, all who
seeitbegin to mock him,30saying,
This man began to build and was
not able to finish?
 INTRODUCTION
WITHOUT VISION, THE PEOPLE

Give us a clear vision that we
may know where to stand and
what to stand for, because
 Definition
Planning is the process
of predetermining a
course of action.
 WHY SHOULD CHRISTIANS
PLAN?
Christians should plan because
they should lead orderly lives
(1 Cor. 14:33; Eph. 5:1).
1 Cor.14:33 For God is notthe
authorof confusion but of peace, as in
all the churches of the saints.
Eph 5:1 Therefore be imitators of
God as dear children.
 Christians should plan because
Christ advocates thinking ahead
(Matt. 7:24-25).
24Therefore whoever hears these
sayings of Mine, and does them, I
will liken him to a wise man who
built his house on the rock:25and
the rain descended, the floods
came, and the winds blew and beat
on that house; and it did not fall, for
it was founded on the rock.
 Christians should plan because they
should be moving toward objectives,
not just fighting fires (constantly trying
to solve one urgent problem after
another) (1 Cor. 9:24-27).
24Do you not know that those who run in a race
all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a
way that you may obtainit.25And everyone who
competesfor the prizeis temperate in all things.
Now theydo itto obtain a perishable crown, but
weforan imperishablecrown.26Therefore I run
thus: not with uncertainty. Thus I fight: not asone
whobeats the air.27But I discipline my body and
bringitinto subjection, lest, when I have
preached to others, I myself should become
disqualified.
 Christians should plan
because we have a clear
example of God blessing
plans in Pauls
experience.
 PAULS EXAMPLE
God gave Paul an objective: to
evangelize and disciple the Gentiles.
Paul followed a pattern in starting
work in a city (Rom. 15:18-24).
We see Paul in action at Ephesus in
Acts 19.
Paul traveled far and wide- always for
a purpose (Rom. 15:18-24).
Paul went to strategic cities.
God blessed Pauls efforts.
 HOW TO PLAN?

1. P RAY Make sure that

you are appropriating
Gods wisdom for the plan.
 What to Pray?
Thank God that you have the
wisdom of the mind of Christ
(1 Cor. 2:16).
Ask God for specific wisdom.
Commit to Him what you are
about to plan (Prov. 16:3).
Write down any thoughts or
Scriptures that God impress
upon your mind concerning
your plan.
 2. E STABLISH
OBJECTIVES
Briefly list key facts relating to
your plan (guidelines and
policies of your organization,
target dates, present
resources, strategy manuals,
needs requiring fulfillment,
problems requiring solution,
other information).
 Determine the elements of the
objectives (SOT)
Determine the scope.
Designate who or what will
be affected (e.g., college
students, churches,
personnel department).
State the desired outcome.
State the target date.
 3. P ROGRAM:
What must exist at the target
date in order for your objective
to be accomplished?
How far along are you toward
what must exist at the target
date?
What specific activities will take
you from where you are now to
your objective?
 4. S CHEDULE
Place on the schedule major calendar
events to which you are already
committed or which are otherwise
pertinent to your planning.
Enter the activities from PROGRAM.
For each activity enter deadlines and
time allotments in the corresponding
row on the schedule.
Keep moving rapidly through the
SCHEDULE point. Dont get too
detailed.
 5. B UDGET
Enter onto planning worksheets
specific resources needed to
accomplish the plan. Work through
the schedule slowly and ask each
activity if it involves any of the
following.
Manpower. How many people is needed
and in what capacity (full-time, part time,
etc.)?
Money. How much money is needed to
accomplish the activities of the plan.
Other resources. What facilities,
materials, etc.. are needed?
