GODS OF THE ANCIENT

EGYPTIANS
 Anubis was the god of mummification . His role was as the guardian
to necropolis. Priests often wore a mask of Anubis to mummification
ceremonies
Ra was the sun god . He was believed to be the ruler of the sky ,
earth and the underworld.
The name Isis means throne . Isis is known as the goddess of
health/marriage and wisdom.
Osiris god of afterlife ,death ,life and resurrection.
Ptah god of arts, fertility, craftsmen and creation.
Horus god of sky and kingship . Son of Osiris and Isis.
Set god of storms, deserts, chaos, war . Brother and killer of Osiris.
 Thot god of knowledge and writing . The ancient
Egyptians believed that he had given them the gift of
writing
Khnum god of water and creation.
Hathor goddess of sky, dance, love, beauty, joy, foreign
lands, mining and music.
Sobek god of
fertility, the Nile, crocodiles and army
 NEFERTITI
An Egyptian queen renowned for her beauty. Nefertiti
ruled alongside her husband Pharaoh Akhenaten. Her
name means a beautiful women has come. She and her
husband established the cult of Aten and the Sun god.
She also promoted art. Her origins remain unclear and
one theory suggests that she was born in Syria.
 TUTANKHAMUN
Tutankhamun is the famous boy pharaoh. He became
the pharaoh at the tender age of nine . He ruled from
1337 BC to 1328 BC . His tomb was found by Howard
Carter in 1922.His tomb was found in the famous Valley
of the Kings. His tomb contained many rich treasures
thought to be of use in the afterlife . A strange number
of coincidences after the discovery of his tomb ,led to
the legend of the mummys curse.
 MUMMIFICATION
Mummification was a very important aspect in the lives
of the ancient Egyptians. Mummification was an
important ritual, in which the dead bodies of humans or
animals were preserved for use in the after life. It took
about 70 days to embalm a body and remove the
organs. Only the heart was left as the Egyptians viewed
it as the center of intelligence and emotion . Mummies
were buried along with their favorite belongings and
practical possessions . These items were believed to
help the dead person in the afterlife.
 CLOTHING
Due to Egypts hot weather ,the ancient Egyptians wore
light weight clothing made of plant fibers such as linen.
Men of the working class wore a loincloth or a short kilt
and sometimes a type of shirt . Women wore dresses with
one or two shoulder straps .Both men and women wore
green or blue eyeshadow and black eyeliner . Jewelry was
popular amongst all social classes of men and women .
Amulets were thought to provide strength or protection
for the owner.
 THE ROSETTA STONE
One of the most important discoveries regarding
Ancient Egypt , sthe Rosetta stone was found by French
soldiers who were rebuilding a fort at Rosetta in
1799.The text which covers the Rosetta Stone is made
up of three translations of a single passage . This
consists of two Egyptian scripts and classical Greek .
The script lists the important things done by the
Pharaoh for his people.
