CFD uses finite volume method CFD uses finite volume method to
to predict P, T, Velocity, Stream predict P, T, Velocity, Stream

grid points. grid points.

Despite being a numerical analysis topic. This

project does have practical significance.
Paper industry uses coater to smoothen the
surface of raw paper.
Quality and cost can be managed if the
manufacture decides to use our program.
Spillage will be reduced and uniform
application will be guaranteed.
Other applications of CFD in general are
prediction of fluid flow in a pipe, over an
aerofoil and also in designing spacecrafts.

External tank only contains the fluid, prevents

spillage and isolates it from environmental influence
Internal is our primary control volume,
Motor of 100 rpm is used in conjunction with 2 idle
axles to carry the belt as a lid over our control volume
This setup shows us the approximate streamline
pattern of positive upper lid velocity and no bottom
lid velocity.
This setup only has a descriptive purpose as, a lot of
idealizations were involved in our program such as
the fluid being non viscous, the control volume being
two dimensional,no slip and no penetration etc.

Time devoted > 100 hrs by each individual.
Source code is in C++ and is 1500 lines strong.
Special thanks to computer science department and
our friends who helped with motor and wiring.
A humbling example of importance of inter-
departmental collaboration in technological progress.

THANK YOU

The differential equation of our problem is

integrated over each control volume.
Piecewise wise profiles expressing the
variations of quantities(mass, momentum
and energy) are used to evaluate the
required integrals.(pg 31 first para
patankar). Thus these basic properties
are always conserved.
