ASSIGNMENT 2
GUIDANCE
This template PowerPoint presentation includes all the
relevant elements you need to cover in your Music
Video Assignment 02
It is suggested you save this PP in a different name and
share it with your group so you always have a copy
some sections require you to delete the information on
the slide and replace with your own work
Add more pages to each section where necessary [you
should be doing this!]
Add visuals as you see necessary
This document will be added to as you progress
through the pre-production phase.
TASK 1 Idea Generation and
Research
RESEARCH & IDEA
GENERATION
Select a song/track that you like [or dont like!]
Generate three ideas for music videos employing
styles, techniques and conventions that we have
looked at in previous sessions. Explore how you could
interpret the song differently using different methods
You can add any extra info you think is relevant,
images, mind maps, etc
For quick mind maps you could use bubbl.us to
generate these
RESEARCH Five Finger Death Punch Remember
Everything
This song is
currently my most
desired choice for
use in my final Idea
as I want to make a
narrative music
video that follows
the song as it
progresses. This
music video does
exactly that, it
follows the lyrics to
create a story

/ The Canon C300 costs 110 a day, considering
that I need 3 days roughly to film that will incur a
330 cost overall. This camera would be a great
option for use in filming a music video as it has
been specifically tailored for use in film making,
meaning that I will be using it for its intended
purpose, therefore creating a higher quality piece
overall.
EQUIPMENT - OTHER
The Manfrotto Fluid Tripod is a relatively cheap
option in terms of equipment, at only 8 a day, the
maximum cost for 3 days will be only 24,
furthermore this tripod is incredibly lightweight and
will require minimum effort to transport around.

/
The Sony E18 costs 19 a day, thus creating an
overall cost of 57, the lens is known for its
incredible resolution when shooting, it will also allow
me to focus more on myself within the video,
forgetting the background and only really using it as
a way of complimenting the idea of the video.

FINAL CHOICE - CAMERA
I have decided to go with the Canon C300 over the Canon 5D
as although the 5D is cheaper and offers very high quality
footage, the C300 is quite literally built for the job as the
camera itself is specifically tailored to be used as a film-
making implement, and my thoughts are that if I can spare the
cost then why go for an inferior tool when I can get something
that is perfectly suited to what I want to do, and besides the
C300 still outputs a fantastic degree of quality, so my video
certainly wont be lacking in the quality section.
FACILITIES
Where will you edit your video? Do you need any other
specialist facilities?
There is an editing suite in London that costs 180 per
day and has all the specialist equipment used in the
editing of videos, as well as the corresponding
software. Considering that I will probably need to do
about 4 days worth of editing that will cost 720,
however will all the equipment and software in the
studio it will make editing so much easier.

Also I could use the college studio space as it is free,
and although it will lack most of the specialist
equipment it is within the college, thus there will be
PERSONNEL
CREW: What is you team? Who is in it? What are each team members
strengths/weaknesses? When are they available?
Elijah Strengths
- He is reliable and trustworthy
- He is free on the days I am going to be filming
- Me and him have both helped with a friends music video before so he knows what he is
doing.
Mark Strengths
- Mark is a special effects make-up artist and is very good at what he does, thus he will
be very useful when making my music video
- He is very reliable and very able to help at the times I have set
- He lives relatively close to me so he can help me with shots outside of college
Craig Strengths
- Craig is one of my best mates and has always been able to help when I need him
- He is versed in the ways of cameras and how they are used
He lives very close to me and can thus help out with shots outside college
PROPS/COSTUME/ETC
I will be the main actor in the video and will most likely
be wearing my regular clothing, thus there will be no
need to pay for any costumes. Any props I use will be
within my own home and will also not cost anything.
The reason I will not really be using any props is
because I am filming in a dark, secluded environment
as a way to display the loneliness created by mental
illness

Rates TV
https://www.bectu.org.uk/advice-resources/rates/television-factual-rates
This is the first part of the song where the chorus is sung, it starts at
1.00 and ends at 1.28 at this point I will be thrashing about and holding
my head in my hands, probably kicking a few walls and hitting my fists
on the ground as to represent extreme stress, regret and anger, this will
most likely be shown in my face as well and most of this scene will
involve me with my mouth posed as though I am screaming. It will then
tone down slightly in preparation for the second verse.
STRUCTURAL
BREAKDOWN SECOND
VERSE
Oh, dear brother, just don't hate me
For never standing by you or being by
your side
Dear sister, please don't blame me
I only did what I thought was truly
right
It's a long and lonely road
When
This isyou
the know you
second walkofalone
verse the song and I starts at 1.28 and ends at 2.06,
with this verse there will most likely be more flicks between family life and
grim reality, with particular emphasis on my brother and my dog over a
sister as I do not have one, I will then prepare to do something similar to
what I did for the first chorus with he second one.
STRUCTURAL
BREAKDOWN SECOND
CHORUS
The second chorus is, unsurprisingly the same as the
other one and will involve similar behavior from me as
in the first one, however towards the end of the second
chorus I will begin to start moving along a path, picking
up speed as I go till I am running along this path this
is in preparation for the the third verse.
The chorus begins at 2.06 and ends at 2.30
STRUCTURAL
BREAKDOWN THIRD
VERSE
I feel like running away
I'm still so far from home
You say that I'll never change
But what the fuck do you know
I'll burn it all to the ground before I let
you run
Please forgive me, I can't forgive you
now
The third verse
I remember starts at 2.30 and ends at 3.00, what is different about this
everything
verse to the others is that there is no pause between it and the chorus as
the second chorus blends seamlessly into the third verse, and thus I will be
continuing what I started to do towards the end of the second chorus and
run down a path until this verse comes to an end, at which point I will
collapse onto my knees and hold my head in my hands and act very
distraught/exhausted.
STRUCTURAL
BREAKDOWN THIRD
CHORUS
The third chorus begins at 3.30 and ends at 3.53 and
for the most part of it I will be thrashing about and
hitting my fists against the floor as I am still knelt
down, I will then slightly calm down and begin to look
forlornly into the distance in preparation for the final
verse.
STRUCTURAL
BREAKDOWN FINAL
VERSE
It all went by so fast
I still can't change the past
I always will remember everything
If we could start again
Would that change the end
We remember everything
Everything
The Final Verse begins at 3.53 and ends at 4.31. As I mentioned before I
will be looking into the distance at 3.53 and then the video will flick to a
scene where I am wearing a rucksack and walking out of my house and
away from my home, it will then flick back to me staring into the distance
and slowly fade out once I bow my head in what is to represent defeat.
STORYBOARDING
Your storyboard should bring your idea to life
Provide an idea of the sequencing of you video
Provides a basis for production
Suggested online storyboard creators are:

My House:
Address: 3 Holly-Tree Court, Carlton, Goole, DN14 9RJ
Images: not really needed as this is my own house
Issues/solutions: There should be no issues with this location as it is
my home and I will therefore not need any permissions or really
anything of that description.
LOCATIONS
Underpass:
Address: N/a (Cant Really find one as this is literally just a public
footpath near college)
Problems/Solutions: In terms of problems there is the issue of this
being a public footpath, which means I dont need any sort of
permission, however this means that when I am filming I will have
to check for pedestrians before I start, this could result in many
retakes as I need me and only me in the shots.
Plan B: Hollyrood Farm (My farm)
Address: Hollyrood Farm, Balne
Problems/Solutions: there wont really be any problems with this
location as the farm belongs to my family and is only really in
consideration as a plan B should I be unable to use the
underpass.
RISK ASSESSMENT
Risk Assess each separate filming location using the
table in the camera H&S PP on Bb as a staring point
Completing a generic filming assessment would be a
start, then you can add specialist/site specific risks as
you progress your production
Remember, a Risk Assessment is an ongoing
document, you should evaluate if anything changes in
production and when you put control measures in
place
You should add the table to each call sheet for each
location
RISK ASSESSMENT
Hazards Person or equipment Control measure
at risk taken
Broken Glass and other potentially Me and the crew Make sure we sweep the area
dangerous debris in the underpass before we use it and also wear
strong footwear e.g. Thick boots
Bikers/Pedestrians with dogs etc. Me, the crew and the equipment Make sure that there is always
someone who is not in the shot
keeping an eye on pedestrians and
moving the equipment etc. if
necessary.
Slippery Surfaces at the farm Me and the Crew Wear Boots that are waterproof
(Should the location be needed) and tough as well as wipe any
surfaces clean before use.
Sharp tools etc. at the farm Me and the Crew Move any tools out of the shot and
place them somewhere safe and
away from us.
Precarious Hay bales and high up Me, the crew and the equipment Keep an eye on anything above us
objects and possibly get some assistance
in moving certain objects out of the

CONTINGENCY
PLANNING
Things go wrong
Your contingency plan is there to give you a backup or
to minimise the effect on production
You should consider the following areas: Technical,
Location, Personnel and Organisational areas [about 5
potential issues for each]
Use the form in pre-production folder on Blackboard
PRODUCTION
SCHEDULE
Provide an outline of what you will do on which days
during production
You should broadly plan to the following structure:
- 2 weeks pre-production
- 1 week filming [plan for up to 2 days]
- 2 weeks editing [essentially 2 days for every day you
filmed]
SCHEDULE
Date What I will be filming/where
21/03/2017 I will be filming some of the underpass scenes
after lessons and probably aiming to get the shots
from sections 1-4
22/03/2017 This is my college day off so I will be filming the
shots that I need from home.
23/03/2017 In the morning before lessons start I will be going
back down to the underpass to film shots from
section 5-6
24/03/2017 This will be after lessons are finished and I will go
back down to the underpass to finish off the
filming with the shots from sections 7-8
27/03/2017 I will be doing my assembly edit and checking my
footage, seeing if I have enough.
28/03/2017 I will be refining and improving certain things,
such as timings of edits etc.
30/03/2017 I will be doing my FX/color grading, basically
polishing areas of the video.
31/03/2017 I will be doing my production log after finishing
the main editing process.
