French Revolution

The monarchy

Once upon time in a place far far away


called France. There was a prince soon to
be king named Louis XVI, who was
arranged to marry a soon-to-be queen
named Marie Antoinette from Austria.
The conditions in
France

Life was very hard for the people of France.


They Lived in poverty, and starvation . Unable
to provide food for their families.
Louis calls the estates
general

.The clergy held the highest social positions. They


were wealthy and exempt from paying taxes. The
clergy were a part of upper 3% of the population. The
French nobility paid no taxes. The Third estate the
commoners of France 97% of the population, paid
100% of the taxes.

call themselves the
national assembly took the

not to separate and to
resemble circumstances
require until there was a
new written constitution
established for France.
Storm
bastille

On July 14, 1789, a state prison on the east


side of Paris known as the bastille, was
attacked by angry and aggressive mob.
Declaration of the rights of
men

On August 26, 1789, The national


assembly wrote a basic human rights
platform in a document written by
Marquis de Lafayette entitled the
declaration of the rights of men.
Women march on
Versailles

On October 4, 1789, a crowd of angry


working women armed with pitchforks ,
pikes, and muskets marched in the rain from
Paris to Versailles demanding bread for
there families. Some of the crowd got into
the queens quarters and Marie Antoinette
barley escaped.
The king and queen
attempt to escape

The royal family failed to attempt to


escape Paris in June 1791. But the king was
recognized by a local postmaster. They
were recaptured and brought back to Paris.
Guillotine

The Guillotine was a machine used to


decapitate peoples head.This machine was
used a lot during the reign of terror.

queen
The king and queen were
accused of traitors for trying
to escape the country. On
January 21 1793 king Louis
XVI was executed. On
October 16 1793 queen
Marie Antoinette was
executed.

On September 5, 1793
July 28 1794 there was
a period of violence.
Robespierre became a
leader of the French
revolution, Many were
executed for the reasons
to purge France enemies
of the revolution and
protect the country from
foreign invaders.

On 1794 Maximilien Robespierre was


banned by the national convention and place
under house arrest on July 27, 1794. following
the next day he was executed.
Rise of napoleon

Napoleon became a hero because


of his victories in wars that he
became the army commander of
France. One of his major victories
was defeating Austria in 1796 in
battles. He later proclaim himself
emperor of France
