KEPLERS LAW

PRESENTED BY : OLANO
CHRISTROPHER L.
History

1609 Tycho Brahe

Tycho brahe known for his accurate and

comprehensiveastronomical and planetaryobservations.
Johanne Kepler published first two law about planetary motion
in 1609 and 1619 third law
Keplers law

Itgives a description of the motion

of planets around the sun
Keplers First Law

The orbit of the planets are ellipses, with the sun at one focus of
the ellipse.
"The orbit of every planet is an ellipse with the Sun at one of the
two foci.
Ellipses and Eccentricity

E = C/A
C = square root of (a^2 - b^2)
Aphelion & Perihelion

Aphelion is the point on the orbit farthest from the sun

Perihelion is the point on the orbit closest to the sun
Keplers Second Law

The line joining the planet to the Sun sweeps out equal areas in
equal times as the planet travels around the ellipse.
Keplers Third Law

The closer the object is to the Sun the faster its period of
revolution

T a
T = orbital period in years
a = semi-major axis in astronomical unit (AU)

Or when in radius
Ta/Tb = Ra/Rb
