PROJECT? The Gothic Bible is interesting to me since it offers insights in the early Germanic language and was translated from the Greek new testament. The language is also interesting as it also influenced Medieval Latin! HISTORY OF THE WULFILA PROJECT The Project got its start in 1996 when two graduate students began posting fragments of the Gothic Bible The Project was inspired by the Perseus Project (which is a digital library that got its start in the 80s) The project eventually found a permanent home at the University of Antwerp The Project, under the guidance of Dr. J. Van Loon, received funding from the University of Antwerps Special Research Fund THE PROJECTS MISSION Project Wulfila is a small digital library dedicated to the study of Gothic and Old Germanic languages in general. Our primary goal is to provide linguistically annotated editions that can be downloaded in TEI format or browsed online FUNDING AND STAFFING? The Project has been largely funded by two different grants awarded by the Special Research Fund The Projects staff are all volunteers who are all involved with other projects. Wulfila is continually developed when each volunteer finds the time Tom De Herdt is the current webmaster of Wulfila He is also one of the original graduate developers He is not affiliated with the University of Antwerp SERVICES PROVIDED? This Project does not offer the services of a Reference Librarian If someone has a question or concern about the project they are able to email the Webmaster. The Project is Open Access! WHAT ARE THE CURRENT COLLECTIONS? Wulfila offers four different major collections: The Gothic Bible & Minor Fragments Old Saxon Heliand Middle and Early Modern Dutch Digital Facsimile Editions Only the Gothic Bible is near completion within the Project. And other collections and materials will be added based on their connection to their linguistic and historical value to the Germanic Languages. WEBSITE USABILITY The Wulfila Project is fairly navigable There is a lot of information posted that can be overwhelming at first glance. The Project does a very good job of explaining why things were done a certain way It functions very similarly to the Perseus Project The Wulfila Project allows users to download the database and the xml TEI sheet if they so choose WEBSITE USABILITY CONT. The Wulfila Project does offer a search with several different search options. However, the search is still in beta (though I did not notice any problems with it when I used it) Overall, the website is well constructed for the limited funding and time of its developers.
