Discuss - What makes a company successful in

A SUCCESSFUL
COMPANY
INTRODUCTION TO
ORGANISATIONS
For any company to succeed good communication
between departments must be free flowing.
In a small company of two or three employees this is no
problem but in a large company it is impossible for one
person to solve all the problems and make all the
decisions.
Therefore the responsibility for decision making must
be broken up into specialised groups.
Unfortunately as a department gets more specialised

less people are unable to make decisions and this can

breakdown in the flow of information.
INTRODUCTION TO
ORGANISATIONS
A widely used method of showing the
interrelationships between the various departments in
a company is the hierarchical line management tree.
WHY HAVE A STRUCTURE?
The words used to describe them also can differ
Organization chart,

Design,

Structure

The way they are drawn can also differ

Pyramid,

Sideways Pyramid,

Circle
WHY HAVE A STRUCTURE?
Think about your place of work How does it work
there might be a structured plan displayed in the
administrative office or on the shop floor ?

Task - Draw a structured plan of your own workplace.

Label roughly how departments work together.

BE PREPARED - to brief the group on your company,

how many people roughly work there? What do you
they manufacture? Describe how communication
affects your workplace?

committee?

Conclusion These committees could often depend on

the size of the work force and the drive from the
employers/employees to set one up.

REMEMBER If more than 2 safety representatives

put it in writing to the employer asking for a safety
committee then one has to be organised
