only story Albert knows is that his father
became violently ill at a public execution.

poor.

Attended elementary in a school close to

a Moslem community and saw first-hand
the idea of the outsider he would later

The Absurd
The absurd is the product of a collision between
human desire for order meaning and purpose and
the indifferent `silence of the universe.

We have only three responses to this predicament:

Physical suicide Cowardly
Religious meaning Philosophical Suicide
Acceptance Only rational choice
Life can be lived all the better if it has no
meaning.
The only serious
philosophical
question
Whether or not to
commit suicide?
Life is absurd, which is to say,
its meaningless.
The Myth of
Sisyphus
Camus publishes this non-fiction work a
year after completing The Stranger. In this
retelling of the myth of Sisyphus, he
embodies his concept of the Absurd.

The story concludes with Camus pivotal

philosophical statement:

The struggle itself toward the heights is

enough to fill a mans heart. One must
imagine Sisyphus happy.

To understand his point, we must

understand the themes that his writing
explores.
The answer
Instead of finding solace in hope
of another world- we ought to
revolt against our condemnation
and create art that reflects our
human condition.
In the myth of Sisyphus, humanexistence
seems to be absurd. In this myth, the feeling
of absurdity exile us from the homelike
comforts of a meaningful existence. In
addition from this feeling, it is linked to the
idea that life is meaningless and the act of
suicide is linked to the idea thatlife is not
worth living. It only happens if we have lack of
hope and not seeing the true meaning and
purpose of our existence.
The symbolism used in themyth which
describes human existence is Sisyphus had to
roll up the rock from bottom to the top of the
hill because what he does is the symbol of
what we do every day in our life, the daily
routine which is tojustify that life is
meaningless absurd and fruitlessbut it should
be taken as a challenge.
CAMUS proposes an ending to the myth
As the rock rolls down the mountain, we may
imagine Sisyphus happy, in this act, Sisyphus
revolts and thereby creates meaning in his
absurd punishment.
The act of creating itself that ought to matter.
In my own analysis, the myth speaks about
the routine of our daily life not the human
freedom because when Sisyphus had to roll up
the rock from bottom to the top of the hill and
repeats again when it rolls down, this
significantly symbolizes our daily routine
which means we must face our challenges no
matter how hard it was, have faith and hope
that we can achieve something and live life to
the fullest.
