Vivekananda Kendra which is a well known service Mission is

primarily based on the teachings of Swami Vivekananda who

preached man making and nation building as the basic objectives,
Swami Vivekananda stressed on serving humanity as he could
visualize that There are lots of poor people sunk in degradation and
misery who need to be served with zeal and enthusiasm and needful
action to be taken up to distribute medicines to those who are sick
and also to nurse them with all care. The concept of Vivekananda
Kendra and Numaligarh Refinery hospital project stemmed from this
particular vision of Swami Vivekananda as was being conceived by
the former Managing Director of Numaligarh Refinary Ltd. Sri
Ranjit Kumar Dutta, who had initially given shape to the idea of
involvement of an NGO like that Vivekananda Kendra with its
widespread reputation of being a dedicated service organization
which has contributed very significantly in the sphere of education in
the North East under the leadership of its present Vice President
Mananiya A.K. Balakrisnanji
It was born in the year 1997, 19th September through an MOU signed
By Mr. R. K. Dutta and Shri. Balakrishnanji.
A brief introduction and significant milestones of VKNRL
Hospital
Hospital service in the form of OPD and Dispensary only was
founded in April 1998 at 16th Unit NRL Township with one Doctor.
Hospital OPD Block was commissioned on 12th May 1999
and doctors were recruited in the following disciplines :
a) Medicine
b) General Surgery
c) Obstertrics & Gynaecology
d) Pediatrics
 An accident and Emergency service with Minor OT support
was also started during that period.
Two other essential departments were also added, namely,
Pathology and Radiology services
In-Patient Services : Was commissioned on 20th July 2000
with a bed strength of 30.
SUSRUTA WING was inaugurated on 6th July 2001

 After the inauguration of Susruta Wing the following

Pathology:
The Pathology Department is one of the pioneer in the district operated by
experienced Doctors and technicians and provides round the clock service with
utmost accuracy. In addition to routine Laboratory investigations, special
investigations are regularly performed as per proper specifications and high accuracy
with regular internal and external quality check.

The critical battery of tests are monitored through External and Internal Quality
Control Assessment Scheme. The External Quality Control Programme is maintained
through Christian Medical College, Vellore. Internal Quality Control is being
maintained through calibration and standardization.

For other specialized tests that are not done here, we have tied up with reputed
national laboratories having NABL accreditation. We are on the process of getting
NABL accreditation.

Blood Bank:
The Blood Bank of VK-NRL Hospital is staffed by experienced Doctors and

The Telemedicine centre of VK-NRL Hospital was started in January, 2011 under an
agreement between VK-NRL Hospital and Apollo Telemedicine Networking
Foundation on appointment basis. We are planning to have teleconsultations with
other leading hospital of the country.

Yoga & Meditation:

Regular yoga classes are conducted in the morning and evening at the hospital
premises. Yoga classes are also conducted in the nearby schools periodically.

Pharmacy :
Our 24 hrs. Pharmacy service forms an integral part of our hospital with large range
of quality assured medicines including some special medications. It is manned by
trained and skilled professionals for quality assurance.

Ambulance:
The hospital is equipped with ambulance services. Ambulance operates within the
captive population of NRL Township. The ambulance is equipped with Oxygen, First
Aids and Emergency Medicines. The drivers are trained in handling emergency
situations, administering or application of First Aids and carrying out B.L.S (basic life

 MOBILE MEDICAL SPECIAL CAMP
A unit of Vivekananda Kendra NRL Hospital
Numaligarh Refinery Ltd. decided to outsource its proposed Hospital in the
township; accordingly they approached Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari
to run the Hospital to which they agreed to the proposal only with one
condition that they will have to be give opportunity to serve the
surrounding people who do not have any scope for healthcare. An MOU
between the Numaligarh Refinery Ltd. and Vivekananda Kendra,
Kanyakumary was signed in the year 1997.

In 1998 a dispensary to serve the Refinery and its allied group people and
Mobile Medical Camp for the near by rural population was set up at 16th
Unit of NRL Township with one Doctor, One Nurse and One nursing
attendant. Above mentioned medical team goes to nearby rural areas and
provide them free medicine and advise after making the diagnosis on
clinical examination. The Hospital organises camp thrice in a week in 12
centres within 5 KM radius of Refinery and Township. This centre covers
about 25,000 rural populations. Patient history and treatment record card
were maintained. In other words it can be termed as Mobile OPD.
It also organizes Special camp when there is natural calamity like flood,
earthquake etc. and epidemic outbreak like Malaria, Dysentery beyond 5
K.M. radius were also covered.

In the year 2005 Mobile Medical Camp took another step to improve its
services by getting Doctors from Social and Preventive Medicine
Department of Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh who attends the camp
and get acquainted with the rural Health Service. They also undertake the
demographic survey of surrounding villages in detail inclusive of
documentation, which ultimately helps NRL to decide and gear up their
CSR activity.

Over and above the regular medical service including the awareness on
different preventable disease, we also introduced weekly specialist service
in Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Pediatrics and School Health. We also
conduct Diabetes, Hypertension and Cancer Detection Camps at different
location. Patients those who require investigations are being referred to VK-
NRL Hospital.
Special camp on monthly basis are also organized beyond 5 K.M. radius
where visiting specialist also provide their services.

At present there are 30 centres which covers around 40,000 - 50,000 rural
population.

Since the inception Mobile Medical camp has completed 3664 Nos. of
camp till 31st December 2016 and provided free medical treatment to
1,85,863 patients.
