OVERVIEW OF THE
TECHNOLOGY USED
Amobile virtual network operator(MVNO),
ormobile other licensed operator(MOLO), is a
wireless communications services provider that does not
own thewireless network infrastructureover which the
MVNO provides services to its customers.
An MVNO enters into a business agreement with amobile
network operatorto obtain bulk access to network
services at wholesale rates, then sets retail prices
independently. An MVNO may use its own customer
service, billing support systems, marketing, and sales
personnel, or it could employ the services of amobile
virtual network enabler(MVNE).
HSPA, HSUPA & HSPA+
High Speed Packet Access(HSPA)is an amalgamation of
twomobileprotocols.
High Speed Uplink Packet Access (HSUPA), that extends
and improves the performance of existing3G mobile
telecommunication networks utilizing
theWCDMAprotocols.
A further improved3GPPstandard,Evolved High Speed
Packet Access (also known as HSPA+), was released late
in 2008 with subsequent worldwide adoption beginning in
2010.
Bit-rates to reach as high as 337Mbit/s in the downlink
and 34Mbit/s in the uplink.
HSDPA
Enhanced3G(third-generation)mobilecommunications protocolin
the High-Speed Packet Access (HSPA) family, also dubbed 3.5G, 3G+,
or Turbo 3G
Allows networks based on(UMTS) to have higher data speeds and
capacity.
Introduced with 3GPP Release 5, which also accompanies an
improvement on the uplink providing a new bearer of 384kbit/s than
previous bearer 128kbit/s.
Decreaseslatencyand so theround trip timefor applications.

HSPA+introduced in 3GPP Release 7 further increases data rates by

adding 64QAM modulation,MIMOandDual Cell HSDPAoperation.
For example two 5MHz carriers are used simultaneously. Even higher
speeds of up to 337.5Mbit/s are possible with Release 11 of
the3GPPstandards.
UNIVERSAL MOBILE
TELECOMMUNICATIONS
SYSTEM(UMTS)
Third generationmobile cellular system for networks
based on theGSMstandard.
Developed and maintained by the3GPP(3rd Generation
Partnership Project), UMTS is a component of the
International Telecommunications UnionIMT-
2000standard set and compares with
theCDMA2000standard set for networks based on the
competingcdmaOnetechnology.
Uses widebandcode division multiple access(W-CDMA)
radio access technology to offer greater spectral
efficiency and bandwidth to mobile network operators.
LONG-TERM EVOLUTION
(LTE)
(Commonly marketed as4G LTE) is a standard
forwirelesscommunication of high-speed data for mobile
phones and data terminals.
It is based on theGSM/EDGE andUMTS/HSPA network
technologies, increasing the capacity and speed using a
different radio interface together with core network
improvements.
LTE does not satisfy the technical requirements the 3GPP
consortium has adopted for its newLTE
Advancedstandard.
