Assessment (EIA)
Lecture - 1
Environment
It includes the conditions under
which any individuals or thing exists,
live or develop.
3
The Environment of Human Being
Includes:
Abiotic Factors:-
Land, water, atmosphere, climate, sound, odours
and taste.
Biotic Factors:-
Fauna (animal life of a region or geological
period) Flora (the plants of a particular region or
geological period) Ecology, bacteria and viruses;
and all those social factors which make up the
quality of life.
4
How the Word Environment
Emerged:
The word environment emerged in
response to the public health:
1. In sanitary (dirty or germ carrying) dwellings and streets.
2. Contaminated public water supplies.
3. Drain and sanitation.
4. Public nuisances.
5. Unhygienic food processing.
6. Overcrowding.
7. Refuse dump.
8. Epidemics (wide spread of diseases)
5
Environment
The sum total of all surroundings of a
living organism, including natural
forces and other living things, which
provide conditions for development
and growth as well as of danger and
damage.
Environment
Environment literally means surrounding
and everything that affect an organism
during its lifetime is collectively known as
its environment. In another words
Environment is sum total of water, air and
land interrelationships among themselves
and also with the human being, other
living organisms and property. It includes
all the physical and biological surrounding
and their interactions.
Environment
Environmental studies provide an
approach towards understanding the
environment of our planet and the
impact of human life upon the
environment. Thus environment is
actually global in nature, it is a
multidisciplinary subject including
physics, geology, geography, history,
economics, physiology,
biotechnology, remote sensing,
Impact
A way of evaluating changes from an
intervention or development
programme.
Assessment
Assessment is the process of gathering and
discussing information from multiple and
diverse sources in order to develop a deep
understanding of what students know,
understand, and can do with their knowledge
as a result of their educational experiences; the
process culminates when assessment results
are used to improve subsequent learning.

3. Preventive principle; EIA should be
applied at the earliest opportunity within
the decision-making process to allow
the anticipation and avoidance of
environmental impacts wherever
possible; and
goal clarity;
level of challenge;
commitment (buy in);
feedback; and
task complexity.
Organizational learning
In recent years, enabling individual, organizational and
wider social learning has increasingly been portrayed as
being one of EIAs main roles.
Shields are exposed areas of ancient, stable continental rocks. They are often
buried by younger sediments. Shield areas have mineral potential, the
extraction of which has led to many environmental problems.
3. Forestry and agriculture can disturb flora and fauna, if not done
sustainably; furthermore, industrial harvesting of fish can destroy marine
habitats; finally, there is general wildlife and habitat destruction.

The person may also appeal to the High Court against the
sentence/order of the Environmental Tribunal, but again within 30
days of its communication.
Regulation 11 Review of IEE by EPA within 45 days and of the EIA within 90
days. EPA may constitute a committee of experts and should also consider
comments of stakeholders.
