Statement of the Problem
It is a common practice in some colleges to
mix students of different disciplines and
teach the a common subject known as
Business English which sometimes does
not meet the specific needs of each
discipline. An extensive literature
research reveals that no research has
been done to study this phenomena for
EOP.
Objectives of the study
1.To examine to what extend the present
syllabus of Business English and the
approach used meets the requirements
of their chosen field of career.

2. To analyse the course materials to see

if they are suitable, meet the needs of
learners and are user friendly.
Research Questions?
1. What are the expectations and needs of
the students with regards to their English
language competency both in oral and
writing skills to function efficiently in job
markets in the future?
2. Do current Business English programmes
of the students meets the specific
language needs required at the
workplace?
3. Does the present system of integrating
students of different disciplines into a
common class for Business English caters
for the future needs of the learners and if it
does not then what recommendations can
be suggested?
Limitations of the study.

The study will only involve one college in

the Klang Valley where students who are
doing Diploma in Hospitality management,
Diploma in information technology and
Diploma in management are mixed
together in one class for Business English.
