The simplest application clutches are employed
in devices which have two rotating shafts.
In these devices one shaft is typically attached
to a motor or other power unit (the driving
member), while the other shaft (driven
member) provides output power for work to be
done.

application of clutch is in
automotive vehicles,
where it is used to
connect the engine and
the gear box.
Here the clutch enables to
crank and start the engine
disengaging the and
change the gear to alter
the torque on the wheels.

The internal-shoe rim device consists essentially of
three elements:
The mating frictional surfaces;
The means of transmitting the torque to and from

The structure is simple and easy to install.
It has a relatively low cost of
manufacturing.
Higher absolute braking force;

Disadvantages:
All these parts are in an enclosed space, so
the dissipation of the heat is a big
problem. And in high temperature the
shoes will occur complex deformation,
which will cause the decreasing of the
braking efficiency and vibration.
We need to adjust the position of the shoes
after using for a while, or even remove this
device from the wheel to clear the powder
caused by friction.
