Three critiques

Critique of
Pure
reason

Critique of
practical
reason

The critique
of
judgement

The critique of pure reason:

Kant maintains that our knowledge does not entirely come
through our sense which but imperfect measure of reality.
The real world is beyond of our sensory comprehension but
not beyond our intellectual comprehension
Kant said, The eye without the mind is blind and
impotent

The critique of practical reasons

It is a refutation of his previous views. He based his religion
on pure reason but on morals. Ethical obligations is reality.

The critique of judgement

Kant finds god in the beautiful resign of
nature based on patterns laid up in the
heavens. The lay man feels the presence of
god in the two grade mysteries. The starry
heavens above and the law within.

Contributions of Immanuel Kant:

Divided knowledge into transcendental and empirical knowledge
Believed that there were truths not based upon sensory experience
Believed in free will and an innate moral consciousness.

The mind is:

Active
Governed by innate laws and structure
Translates sensations into ideas
The dimensions of time and space are perceptual forms
innate to the mind

His contribution on psychology has been felt in:

Cognitive development
Moral development
Structure of thought and language
Idea of culture-free method of assessment

Educational Implications of
Kants philosophy

Aims of Education

Education should provide both a priori and posteriori

knowledge to the child.

Education should promote power of self-determination

Childs education should continue until about the age o

sixteenth year.
Child is neither good nor bad at birth, so education

should play constructive role in forming human

character.

Curriculum and Methodology of

Teaching
Adjusted as per the learners.
Provision for both work and

play.
Educational methods must be

transformed from a mere

exercise of mechanical rules
into a science.

Discipline and Education

An ideal educated man must be welldisciplined.

A teacher should respect the

individually and dignity of each
individual.

Conclusion
Immanuel Kant is one of the greatest
philosophers of modern period. He was a man of
strict discipline and regular habits. Kantian
idealism can be regarded as the gateway of
modern philosophy.
