HISTORY
In 1900, Andrew Carnegie donated 1 million dollars to Pittsburgh
This was to be spent on building a technical institute
Carnegie wanted people to have basic skills to be successful later in their
lives.
The school was later names Carnegie Mellon University in honor of
Andrew Carnegie.
The university was originally only open to men but later opened to
women as well.
Carnegie said, My heart is in the work.
This later became a huge part of the schools motto.

DESCRIPTION
Carnegie Mellon University is a technical institute located in the city of
Pittsburgh.
Carnegie Mellon specializes in the fine arts.
CMU is known for finding solutions to real life problems in the world.
CMU invented the first emoticon, which many people still use today.

All fine arts applicants to the Schools of Architecture, Art, Design, Drama and Music are required to
arrange anaudition or portfolio review
Home schooled applicants should submit an academic portfolio/transcript consistent with their state
guidelines and a list of all textbooks used
Applicants must provide proof of meeting all requirements for an official high school diploma, by the
end of May of the year of graduation,and submit an official final transcript, GED or certificate of
completion from your local school district or state board of education by the end of July of the year
of matriculation

ACADEMICS
Carnegie Mellon ofers degrees in Engineering, the Fine Arts, and many
Humanities.
If places on academic probation, you will stay on it until the end of the
semester. If your grades meet the minimum requirements then you will
be taken of of probation.
If GPA is still failing at the end of a semester then you will on probation for
the entire next semester as well.

CAMPUS AND SOCIAL ACTIVITIES


Carnegie Mellon has 280 organizations that are run by the students on
the campus.
Our organizations represent various social, service, media, academic,
spiritual, recreational, sport, religious, political, cultural and governance
opportunities for all students(cmu.edu.)

They have 18 NCAA Division 3 Varsity sports.


All students except those on probation can participate in any of the athletics.

19% of the students living on campus join a fraternity or sorority.

FINANCIAL AID/SCHOLARSHIPS
CMU ofers three types of financial aid.
Federal Perkins Loan
Federal Direct Students Loan
Federal Direct PLUS Loans

Students also have the option of using a private loan option as well.
CMU will ofer you the best option that you are eligible to receive
Scholarships are only awarded to academically and artistically talented
middle income students who qualify for little to no need-based financial
aid (cmu.edu.)

CAREER SERVICES
Dining halls and restaurants are located all across the campus.
They serve foods of all kinds, from Mexican, to Asian, to Italian.
They include places to eat at all times of the day.
There is no ethnicity or type of person who is left out when it comes to
the food.
You can fill out an application to receive a dining plan
Dining plans will allow you to carry around a card to pay for meals on
campus.
You can add money to your card anytime, and parents can also put money on
it.
A minimum of a 25$ deposit is required.

ON CAMPUS LIVING
Housing is guaranteed to all first year students.
However, they are required to stay in designated residence halls and
apartments.

Most residence halls are located near classes, dining, and fitness centers.
Dorms are put in groups based on price and occupancy
Most do not have cooking facilities
There are three types of rooms.
Standard
Prime
Suite

This article talks about how Scott Fahlman, who was a CMU professor,
invented the emoji. It was invented on September 19th, 1982. This began
to spread throughout the campus, and eventually to other schools, and
then on to be used by millions of people around the world. It had only
taken a few months for those to spread throughout the world.
