Introduction
Radical cystectomy remains the gold
standard for treatment of patients
with muscle invasive bladder cancer,
or recurrent high grade non-muscle
invasive bladder cancer.
Despite the advent of minimally
invasive and robotic technology,
radical cystectomy has a significant
mortality and morbidity.
Enhanced Recovery
The enhanced recovery program
(ERP) has been shown to reduce the
occurrence of adverse events and
length of stay for patients undergoing
surgery
In some high volume institutions, the
introduction of ERP has resulted in a
reduction in the median length of stay
from 8 to 4 days
Complications
Early Complications
Intestinal anastomotic leak urinary
leakage
Infection
Wound dehiscence or incisional
hernia
Deep vein thrombosis (DVT)
Late Complications
Follow Up
Conclusion
Radical cystectomy with OBS
reconstruction is a procedure that
carries a significant risk of short and
long term complications
All patients with OBS reconstruction
should have regular long term followup for oncological surveillance and to
identify complications should they
arise
