RF PLANNING FOR ADAPTIVE CA

The coverage areas provided by the carriers to be aggregated must overlap. The areas where CA
takes effect are dependent on the overlapping ranges.
For Adaptive configuration, the overlapping ranges must meet the requirements of scenario 1, 2,
3, or 4

NOTE: Scenario 2 is being used for OR Tambo

Airport.

HARDWARE PLANNING FOR ADAPTIVE CA

RF modules:
To meet the time alignment error requirements,
use one dual-carrier RF module or two RF modules of the
same model for intra-band CA. Inter-band CA has no special
requirements for RF modules. For the time alignment error
requirements,
BBPs, including UMDU:
CA works between either intra-BBP or inter-BBP cells.
For intra-BBP CA, use a BBP other than LBBPc. For inter-BBP CA,
use any combination of LBBPc, LBBPd, and UBBP boards,
except a combination of two LBBPc boards. Antenna modes of
cells supported by common BBPs are listed table.

NOTE: LBBPd and UBBP perform better than LBBPc in terms of

UE capacities and processing capabilities. Therefore, it is
recommended that cells on LBBPd and UBBP boards act as
PCells for UEs. Cells on LBBPc boards cannot act as PCells.

CA Status Change (1/4)
There are 3 status for a CA-capable UE:
1. SCC_Unconfigured: same as a non-CA UE
2. SCC_Configured_Activated
3. SCC_Configured_Deactivated

Typical scenarios for CA status transition

. Initiation stage
. Traffic to trigger SCCactivation/deactivation
. Coverage event (A2) to de-configure SCC
. Handover procedure (mobility)
Note:
1) Only eNodeB can deactivate or de-configure SCC (SCC can be deactivated, but PCell cannot be).
2) Handover is required to change the PCell for a CA UE.

CA Mechanism and Dependency

Mechanism
eNB support intra-band (contiguous or non-contiguous) CA for two downlink carriers
eNB support inter-band CA for two downlink carriers
In basic scheduling, CA UE (with non-GBR) will be treated as non CA UE, which means their scheduling priority is
same; In differentiation scheduling, CA UE can be treated as two UEs, which means it can get same RB with other
UE in each carrier. Thus, CA UE can get double radio resource in theory
By Carrier Management, eNB can activate UEs SCell with high data rate and deactivate it with low data rate
Dependency
UE: R10 or later, to support CA
RRU/RFU: Should keep Time Alignment Error less than 130ns (for contiguous), 260ns (for non-contiguous), and
1300ns (for inter-band)
CN: To support single user 100Mbps throughput
eNB Version Recommend eRan8.1 and upper
Support : LBBPd1+LBBPd 2/ two LBBPd1 / two LBBPd2 / LBBPd3
.

Set both FreqCfgSwitch(FreqCfgSwitch) and AdpCaSwitch(AdpCaSwitch) under this
parameter on.
This parameter specifies whether a candidate cell can be configured as an SCell in a blind
manner during adaptive CA.

In adaptive configuration mode, this parameter takes effect regardless of the

SccBlindCfgSwitch setting under the ENodeBAlgoSwitch.CaAlgoSwitch parameter.

SCell Blind Configuration Flag

CaGroupSCellCfg.SCellBlindCfgFlag
If this parameter is set to TRUE(TRUE), the eNodeB can configure this candidate cell as an SCell
for CA UEs in a blind manner, without delivering A4 measurement configurations to the UEs.

If this parameter is set to FALSE(FALSE), the eNodeB delivers A4 measurement configurations to

CA UEs before it can configure this candidate cell as an SCell.

Precaution
LTE should be to keep UEs camping on the L1800 layer, with L2100 essentially only
being used for downlink CA traffic where the LTE2100 is the SCell not the Pcell.
After activation of CA we have to monitor L2100 & F3 performance both ways. If there
are degradations in UL / DL, RSSIs (interference) it should be reported immediately
(Regional teams,) for both the technology.
Pre DT should be done to make sure CA Site U2100 F3 and LTE serve same area in co
sector .
All Baseline script run in once and check if got fail .
All hardware requirement should be install before activation .
Must be double check all F3 layer deactivate or remove on CA site .
