ART TERMS
Composition: is the term used for the arrangements

pulls their eye across the whole painting so that everything
is taken in and finally settles on the main subject of the
painting.)
Landscape:are works of art that feature scenes of
nature: mountains, lakes, gardens, rivers, etc.
Oil Pastel: a painting and drawing medium in stick
form from a mixture of pigments, non-drying oil, and
wax binder. (Also called oil crayon.)

Henri Rousseau- French (18441910)

Nationality: French
Art Periods: Post-Impressionism, Nave art, Modern art, Primitivism
Henri Rousseau is most well known for the jungle themes in which most
of the pieces he created took place.
Some of the inspiration for the work he created, were visits to zoos,
magazines, and the time he spend in Paris.
Surprised!, is the first of these pieces, which was exhibited in theNational Gallery,
London, in 1891. Another piece,The Dream, was exhibited inMOMA, New York, in
1910. These are two prime examples of the creativity of the work he created, and
his ability to work on a larger scale, with longevity, and with the attention to detail
which he paid in his art forms.
Nothing makes me so happy as to observe nature and to paint what I see. - Henri
Rousseau
