Perception
Perception is the process by which the cognitive
system constructs an internal representation of the
outside world.
Figure ground
Figureground organization is a type of perceptual
grouping which is a vital necessity for recognizing
objects through vision. In Gestalt psychology it is
known as identifying a figure from the background.
For example, you see words on a printed paper as the
"figure" and the white sheet as the "background."
Grouping
Merits of Perception:
Perception helps us to perceive individual easily.
Perceptions enables us to know customers need,
want and demand.
For perception a company can catch topic very
easily.
It works as hidden clue or hints.
It helps us to make a plan or take the next step.
By perception we will be able to influence other.
Knowledge form perception can apply as
experience.
Demerits of Perception:
Perception sometime leads us to
perceive negatively.
It is a sensitive work.
It can be easily damaged.
Different person view can be different.
Someone use a things as positive but
some person take it negative.
It can be caused of miss
understanding.
Perceptual Constancies
Perceptual
constancy
refers
to
the
tendency to perceive an object you are
familiar with as having a constant shape,
size, and brightness despite the stimuli
changes that occur.
For example: when we smell a rose then
we dont get the smell of lily, and its
because of Perceptual Constancies.
Types of Perceptual
Constancies
Size constancy.
Relative size.
Shape constancy.
Brightness constancy.
Size constancy
The
tendency
to
perceive
a
physical
object
as
having
a
constant size even when the size of
the image it casts on the retina
changes. Its allows us to perceive
objects as the same size at
different distances.
Relative
Size
Shape Constancy
Shape Constancy is the tendency to perceive
an object as having the same shape
regardless of its orientation or the angle
from which we view it.
Brightness Constancy
The tendency to perceive objects as
having a constant brightness even when
they are viewed under different
conditions of illuminations.
Conclusion
Perception is necessary for us to survive in our
environment. For example, before parents feed
their babies microwaved food, they taste it in order
to make sure that the temperature isn't too hot.
This involves using sensory information (touch and
taste) to make sure that the food is not dangerous
for the infant. Before we cross a busy street, we
rely on our hearing and sight to make sure a car is
not coming. Without the sensory information, we
would not be able to judge which food was too hot
or when an appropriate time to cross the street
would be, which could put us and our children in
