Introduction
Globalization and technological change- processes that have accelerated in tandem over the
past fifteen years- have created a new global economy powered by technology, fueled by
information and driven by knowledge.
The emergence of this new global economy has serious implications for the nature and
purpose of educational institutions.

ICT include radio and television, as well as newer digital technologies such as computers
and the internet- have been touted as potentially powerful enabling tools for educational
change and reform.

However, the experience of introducing different ICTs in the classroom and other educational
settings all over the world over the past several decades suggested that the full realization of
the potential educational benefits of ICTs is not automatic.
The effective integration of ICTs into the educational system is a complex, multifaceted
process that involves not just technology- indeed, given enough initial capital, getting the
technology is the easiest part! but also curriculum and pedagogy, institutional readiness,
teacher competencies, and long-term financing, among others.

Meaning
o The term information refer to any communication or representation of knowledge such as facts, data or
opinions in any medium or for including textual, numerical, graphic cartographic, narrative or
audiovisual forms
o

Technology is the practical form of scientific knowledge or the science of application of knowledge to
practical.

o ICT is the Information and Communication Technologies. ICT in education means Teaching and
Learning with ICT . Educational ICT tools can be divided into 3 categories: input source, output source
and others.
o ICT means Information and Communication Technology and refer to the combination of manufacturing
and services industries that capture, transmit and display data and information electrically.
o ICT is an umbrella term that include any communication device or application, encompassing: radio,
television, cellular phones, computer and network hardware and software, satellite systems and so on, as
well as the various services and applications associated with them, such as videoconferencing and
distance learning.

ICT is an abbreviation for information and communication technology, refers to all equipment,
applications and services that involve communication. Computers, cellphones, televisions,
radios and satellite systems are all part of ICT.

o ICT is concerned with the storage, retrieval manipulation, transmission or reception of digital
data. ICT is defined, as a diverse set of technological tools and resources used to
communicate, and to create, disseminate, store and manage information.

Scope of ICT in Education

ICT encompasses all those gadgets that deal with the processing of information for better and
effective communication. In education, communication process take place between teachers,
students, management and administrative personnel which requires plenty of data to be stored for
retrieval as and when required, to be disseminated or transmitted in the desired format.
Students develop capability in using ICT for tasks associated with information access and
management, information creation and presentation, problem solving, decision making,
communication, creative expression, and empirical reasoning.
This includes conducting research, creating multimedia information products, analyzing data,
designing solutions to problems, controlling processes and devices, and supporting computation
while working independently and in collaboration with others.

 A person from village also can refer the latest information and research every day.
Television broadcast is one of the best communication media to educate students, farmers,
sportsman.
The difficult experiments, advance surgery for medical students etc., can be viewed.
LCD projectors can be used for effective training.
The man power problem, the human mistakes can be avoided by on-line examination.

Classroom online

In online tutoring, the student logos into his or her tutor through the use of internet at home.
The student asks the question and teacher replies it by writing on smart board or using power point
presentation.

Learning using ICT

Motivates learner.
Learning process can be anywhere and anytime.
Students use interactive whiteboard in classroom.

Role of ICT in Education

Nowadays the role of information and communication technology(ICT), especially internet
in the education sector plays an important role, especially in the process of empowering the
technology into the educational activities.
Education sector can the most effective sector to anticipate and eliminate the negative impact
of ICT. Technology in another side can be the most effective way to increase the students
knowledge.
Being aware of the significant role of ICT(internet) in our life, especially in the educational
activities, education authorities should be wise enough in implementing the strategies to
empower ICT in supporting the teaching and learning process in the classroom.
ICT is note just the bloom of the educational activities, but also it will be the secondary
option to improve the effective and meaningful educational process.

 The main purpose of the strategy for information and communication in education is to
provide the prospects and trends of integrating information and communication
technology(ICT) into the general educational activities.
The ICT has been developing very rapidly nowadays. There for in order to balance it, the
whole educational system should be reformed and ICT should be integrated into educational
activities.
The influence of ICT , especially internet(open source tool) cannot be ignored in our students
lives. So, the learning activities should be reoriented reformulated, from the manual source
centered to the open source ones.
The education sector plays a vital role in economic development, education system in
developing countries should align with the fast evolving technology because technological
literacy is one of the required skill in our current era.
